Need advice about getting rid of mouse stink!

I've already vacuumed and cleaned every interior surface, removed the back seat to vacuum and bleach under it, and bleached all under the trunk liner. I've even cleaned the engine bay out. Now, it primarily comes back if the air gets put on recirculate or I roll down the window while at a drive through window.

Any ideas as to what I'm going to have to do to get rid of this?

whats with the mouse stink? mouse droppings, dead mouse, etc? if it comes back with the recirculation, i would guess that you have something in the air vents, blower motor, etc. need a bit more info to be of much help.

Douse the car with perfume and sell it. The rat piss is there to stay.

Pick up some Nature's Miracle at the pet store. If anything will work, it'd be that. It uses natural enzymes to "eat" the odor. I've heard it works decent on cat pee.

The little bastards decided to make a restaurant out of my car. Didn't notice they were doing it until the smell started. Pulled everything from the trunk and found uneaten food and droppings. I've cleaned my way forward and even managed to shake a bunch of stuff out from under the hood liner.

I'm gonna take the carpet, and as much of the interior that can easily do out, and clean under it.

Know of any way to clean out the air vents, etc?

Last resort, but it has crossed my mind. I do owe less than the car's worth, so I might be able to pull off something without going into the hole. Damned rotten animals.

Trade it in... Go for a Shelby or Bullitt, or at least a different color (or upgraded interior), something different that doesn't seem too odd of a reason to swap out cars.

I had mold growing in mine from the passenger side water leak. Didn't know there was a problem until I could smell the mold, by then it was too late. Since it was caused by the water leak, the dealership worked on it under warranty...professional detail, still smelled...all new carpeting, still smelled...another new carpet & detailing, still could smell it. Disinfected the AC/Heat vents, still smelled. For me, once the smell got in there and spread throughout the car, it got on everything. Ended up trading for an '07 (the original was an '06).

Put a new cabin filter and spray the new one with Lysol. Hopefully you will find it is holding the smell like a sponge. Many times that is where you will find a dead carcus also.

That does sound like a place where I could find the last source of the stink. Now, I just need to find out how to get to the thing.

We had a rat die in the air vents once and the smell stayed for nearly 2 years. Sell your car, take a little profit, buy what you want next and walk right now. You should in the meantime, try to get a sponsorship from the christmas tree air freshner company.

Luckily, I have almost entirely eliminated the smell, there's just that last holdout area that's gonna be hard to get to. Everywhere there was a smell before, now has no smell whatsoever. That $0.97 walmart spray bleach is able to eliminate any trace of such things.

Does anyone know exactly where the recirculate function draws air?

Like JOEGT said change the cabin filter and work that area, It's behind the battery under the black plastic cover. Take out the two fake plastic screws and lift the cover and then you'll see the filter.
