this problem is on my daily driver and i have school so i really need to get this solved asap

OK

the battery was dead one morning, after looking under the hood i noticed the 2 grey with black stripe wires on the lower harness clip on the alternator were just hanging, leading to nothing.

1st question, having these disconnected, would that have killed the alternator.

back to the story

the previous owner for some reason had cut and re connected those wires and i guess just driving around like that they found a way to get loose, the poor quality of the electrical work did not help!!!!

2nd question

The wires are identical as far as marking, does it matter what way i hook them up, and if so how do i tell them apart?

3rd question, if i hook them up wrong will it fry the new alternator?

I want to find the previous owner and smack him up side the head, this is not he first time i have found a "jerry" riged setup on the car...

Some people just rig up whatever man, Im not sure if the polarity on those wires matters or not. If that plug is unpluged it will kill the alternator. Not burn it up but make it where it wont charge with them unpluged. I think those wires just act as a jumper. I can't be sure on that though.

well i took the alt to the shop and it was dead, so i put in a working alt off my 92 and i went to the shop again for another test, STILL not charging, im stumped guys im getten ready to drive this POS ford off a cliff!!!

its for a 93, and yes there are two big grey wires with an orange stripe, comming from the lower clip of the alternator, they both go to the battery so it does not matter which way they are hooked up, my car is currently at the shop getting that part of the harness re-done.
