Hi, I am trying to replace this heater / ac control block in my 1986 mustang gt. The block it broken and it seems that these are nearly impossible to find. Does anyone have any ideas / suggestions on what I can do to replace this? Can I build my own control block? I will not be running the A/C on this anymore, so that mike make it simpler. Any ideas? Thanks!

If you're not in a big rush, drop me a PM with your email address. I pulled the HVAC out of my '86, but I think I kept the control block. If I still have it, I'll give it to you. The car's in the body shop with all of the spare parts in a cardboard box in the hatch. It'll be a few days before I get a chance to go through and look.

95vert, I saw these but they are a little pricey just to replace it with another aged unit. If im going to spend that kind of money Id like something a little more reliable going forward, thanks though!
Sharad, Thanks I will definitely send you one, that would be awesome.
Has anybody ever built there own unit or replaced it with a different one?

Since I know longer have an ac condenser, there would be no need to run any vacuum lines for that function. If i was to make my own there would be less to do as i would just need them for the heater controls.

Sharad- Thanks, no rush let me know.

I guess I'm a little confused. Is there a way to plug the holes where those vacuum lines go? Or do you just leave them?

I could plug them, but right now all the lines are running to a female connector that plugged into the back of the HVAC control box. So far everything is stock, but given that the switch is all busted up internally, its more than likely going to have to be changed. So if i have to, i can plug the ones running for AC and leave the rest.

Will do. I'm sure I have the control panel in a box somewhere in there. When I dug the car out of storage a couple months ago, I remember picking it up and being shocked that one of the knobs was slightly cracked. (just the plastic part that slides off) Everything else on the interior of my '86 is in really good shape. I'll try to head over there this weekend and look for it.
