I have a 641/2 with a D Code 289CI engine. I have been having trouble starting the car especially when hot. The engine cranks slow when cold then speeds up and starts. When the engine is hot it is almost impossible for the engine to crank over. In addition the battery cables get extreamly hot when tring to start. I replaced the starter last year and it did not make a difference it now seems the problem is getting worse. I also have an MSD ignition system. Does any one have any Ideas? Can the MSD go bad??

MSD could go bad. I would check all my grounds first. The overheated battery cables are a good indicator. Remove and clean the block ground, then check the passenger side valve cover grounding strap. Might be corroded, loose, or just not making good contact. Outside chance the solenoid is going bad. You could turn the ignition on and cross the posts to see if the starter turns over any better.
