I had the fuel pump out and I was conntecting the new fuel pump wires to the upper portion of the fuel pump assembly with solderless connectors and on the upper portion where it connects to the top broke. Looks like a tab that has a brass or copper rivet through it. ANyone have any ideas or have that upper portion of the assembly that they aren't using. Thanks. Just finished my 5 lug conversion and I would like to get it on the road again. Thanks in advance.

it isn't on the fuel pump. it is on the upper portion of the assembly where it goes out the top of the tank. I ended up drilling out the connector and running a nut and bolt through there, where it will connect to the outside plug. Funny that you have to splice in the new pump though. I mean I am using solderless connectors and heat shrink but seems kinda funny that gas is all around these wires and connectors.

I soldered some new wires on the copper rivets & crimped new fasttabs (slide on quick connects) for the fuel pump. It works good, no problems.

I also have wondered about the slopply stock arrangement for the fuel pump wiring.

thanks jrichter, I already drilled it out and found a small screw and nut for it. My solder skills are so that I would have ended up soldering the two tabs together LOL!

Lol Ok I thought you meant a tab on top of the pump itself...I would put a lil loctite on there to keep it well, tight there so you dont have to mess with it again .and it is dump that you use solderless connectors near gas fumes sometimes I wonder ,anyhow I got your PM and replied

I don't know. Makes me nervous though doing it that way I may have to just buy a new upper portion. I know my wife would feel better about it. the bolts on outside of the tank where it plugs into the power for the fuel pump look kinda close but that is on the oustide and should be ok. Anyone else know about splice those wires together like that. seems kinda dangerous but that is all the instructions say to do. No one else worry about those wires with the gas fumes. Someone once told me that it is almost impossible to ignite due to the fact that there is just too much fume build up in the tank and it just over powers the eletricity being that it is only 12v. Not sure if I agree with that.
