i am currently selling my 2001 f-150 work truck, and am tied between vechicles. one is a 1979 f-100 with some ungodly amount of lift on it and at least 40" tires on it, i am 6'2'' and the window starts at my eyes. it runs and all, and is in a little rough conditon but i can get it for 1500. the other is a 1999 for mustang, v6 with warranty i can get it for 7000. i do enjoy fast driving, but also some offroading, i was wondering if anyone had any opinions, or if they have owned a 70-79 f-100 and could tell me if their reliable, and what kind of mileage it gets (it has a 351W with a 4bbl carb). i am 16 and would be using the vechicle mainly to and from school and work, but also partying and having fun on the weekends. both have certian benefits for me, so any outside thoughts would help. thanks for all the comments, info and opinions!

no usefull information to give, from me... of ourse, you are talking to a bunch of people who own stangs, so we would say stay, but if you enjoy doing donuts, un the MUD< the go with the truck, not to mention, the stang is much classier than a raised pickup =P

It all depends on the condition of the truck. But for $1500, I'm going to assume it's gonna need some work. You just have to determine whether the work it needs will be under $7k by the time you're done(which you will probably never be done).
You also mentioned that if you got the truck, you'd go off-roading. Usually everytime you go off-roading, something breaks. So figure that in too.
A 5.8 with a 4bbl is not going to sip gas either. Depending on the rest of the setup, I would guess that 10-15mpg would be optimistic.

Other than that, it's all gonna be personnal preference.

Have you considered a classic Mustang?

my first car was a 1968 mustang coupe with a 302 2bbl carb, it was great but it had lots of rust on the frame and was quickly scilenced one day when i was driving through an intersection, and the driver of a (guess it) chevy truck decided that he didnt want to stop at the red light, smashing into my front right fender and totalling the car. the truck runs right now, but has a little rust, im questioning it though because i do a lot of driving, and while in the beginnign i ould save on money because 1500 is cheaper than 7000, ur right when u say that not only are things going to break but the gas can catch up to me and it might in the end cost a lot more than the mustang, but im going to get it checked out thuroughly before i consider it any further. the big benefit to it is that its one of those "i can go where i want when i want"type of trucks, but if im gonna be at the pump every day then im gonna want the stang, edspecially since its more of a chick magnet. if i get the stang i plan on getting the APC demon body kit for it, because i think it looks really good. im also going to get a cold air intake, probably the diablo sport chip, and dual exhaust. ive been considering a saleen wing as well, but other than that i'd leave it stock because i would most likely take it off to college with me (junior in HS right now). the turck would be a fun to9y that i wouldnt care about its condition, but if it breaks as soon as i try to push it, then theres 1500 down the drain which could have been my bodykit painted and put on.

Well, I vote that you get another classic.

1) You already have some experience with them.
2) It's a better investment of money
3) A classic will be more popular with girls than late-model.

i would go for another early model but i would want a 67-68 fastback(either an elanor replica, or maybe a 68 bullitt replica),and my mom would go for any of them because if i could i'd post the pics of the accident, put it this way part of the left hedder was sticking out of the left fender, and my mom said it was such an un-safe car that i wouldn't get another old car while im under her roof. maybe once i go off to college.... i think im gonna get the mustang though, an silver ur right it would get the bitchez more but i've had my girl for a year an a half, an right now im not lookin to replace her anytime soon. thanks for all the help guys!! ill b sure to post some pics when i get it.

that truck sounds very tempting, a 351 windsor and all. i love the old ford pickups so much, i would like a '78 myself. id say its pretty close...you can get a lot cooler sound out of a 351 than a 232 tho and a truck is a lot more versatile than a car (haul, offroading, or just cruise) but in a car you are limited to what you can do. as far as style goes, the truck has my vote, as far as reliability goes, the stang has my vote

That sucks.

My dad actually suggested that I look into a classic for my first car. I guess he decided helping me find a 5.0 wasn't his greatest decision.

one of my friends had the same idea in mind when bought his '66 f-100 back in high school. he got it for a steal, and drove it for about a week. 5 years and god knows how much $$$ later, it's still sitting in his parents backyard in pieces...

If it is a daily driver do not buy the old POS, get the newer vehicle, less headaches, better reliability. Classic cars are nice but not for daily drivers. Take it from a "classic guy" (32) that has owned many classic cars and newer cars.

If you like to wrench all the time instead of drive all the time, buy the old vehicle.

Actually, in 11th grade I was considering selling the '66 for a latemodel. Besides it being too much of a hassle, who do you think it was that talked me out of it?

Girls like the older model Stangs because they all got vinyl seats so their behinds don't stick on the seats when they have sex inside the Stang. The newer Stangs don't have nice seats and you can really mess up the cloth seats when you get bodily fluids on them.
