Well I am pretty new to changing parts in laptops, and I need to know if this will fit in my laptop. Its a Dell INSPIRON e1505 and this is the drive that is currently in it.

This is what I need to know if it will fit.

And Im pretty sure this will fit but I might as well check.

Thanks

The hard drive should fit as long as the laptop uses SATA, which a quick search I did says it does. I can't tell you if the DVD drive will fit, tho. Your best bet would be to pull the current one out and make sure it looks the same as the new one, mainly the connection on the back. Or call Newegg or Dell to find out if it fits for sure.

Yea, its SATA. So thats cool. And I had someone else tell me it would fit.

As far as changing them, I know the HD just has two screws and you pop it out, is the DVD drive the same? Or do I have to open it up? I know it will be different on different laptops, but are most laptops like that?

Most laptops have one screw holding in the DVD drive. Take that screw out and pull on the drive and it should pop right out. If it's not that simple, you should be able to find the service manual on Dell's website.

Ive taken apart laptops before, so its not a big deal if I have to open it up. But I hope its as easy as the HD.

One mroe question. I want to make this 200GB HD Im getting my new internal. So how would I og about doing that? Im going to order an enclosure for it and use Norton Ghost and backup everything to it, then swap them out. That should work right?

Ok, I just "got" Norton Ghost, and apparently it will work perfect for copying my HD. It has a function made specifically for upgrading to a larger HD.

Yeah, Ghost is what you need. I use it almost daily. I'm just not sure about using it to copy your drive to a USB drive....Like I said, I'm pretty sure I remember seeing that option in there, I'm just not 100% sure. Good luck!

if you FDISK/Format make sure you do the NTFS and NOT the "quick" option :nice:

FWIW: i deal with with newegg on a monthly basis. top notch company and stupid fast shipping

The drive you have in your laptop is IDE and the first drive you listed is IDE as well. The second is sata 1.5.

If your laptop has both IDE and sata1.5 then either drive will work. Just make sure your laptop's sata connection isn't sata3.0.
