I searched other posts and didn't find the answer. First what year did ford switch from the 28oz to the 50oz balancers. I currently have a 87 302ho motor in my 67 but I'm building a dart block in a few weeks. Can I use my 50oz balancer and flywheel on the new dart block or does it depend on what the crank is balanced at. The major problem I have is I bought the rotating assembly new/used. The person who I bought it from can't remember what the crank is balanced at. He bought it from Wynne Speed but when I called them, their numbers don't work....So I thought all 87 and up blocks were balanced at 50oz...Please tell me I'm correct...

81 and newer mustangs were balanced to 50oz whereas prior versions and 351w's where a 28oz balance, you really need to know what the crank was balanced to if your wrong than you'll shake the engine to death and it will explode. your taking a gamble on a guess if you use your old 50oz, cause u don't know what it was balanced to, can be 0oz, 28oz, or 50oz.

Any decent machine shop should be able to tell you what it is balanced too based on the harmonic balancer, and or flexplate/flywheel.

The block is bare and have never been assembled, I guess I will have to take the crank to the machine shop and have them check the balance.

Engine Might have to get a Dart block but don't want to and if I do, then 363 instead of 331. Thoughts on what I've already bought so far.......
