88gt acting up
alright i bought my first mustang an 88 gt 3 weeks ago. i was driving it home and it died before i made it to my house. the guy i bought it from got it towed to a shop where they replaced the distributor and that was that and the car has started, ran, idled, and driven flawlessly since then. UNTIL i get in it this morning and begin driving to work. im coming up to a turn in third gear and the tach hits zero and the car feels funny so i push in the clutch and tach jumps back up and i down shift into second and the car runs and drives fine. HUH. drive another mile down the road and im slowing down and the car is still in gear and it dies this time and wont restart. so i crank on it a little bit and nothing. crank a little more and nothing. turn the key again and it fires right off. considering its 5 in the morning and raining i make a turn and get it home before im stranded. the car runs and drives fine as it usually does all the way home and i park it. call into work and go to sleep. i went out later to try and figure it out and it never would start. decide im going to go to the parts house but give it one more try and as soon as i hit the key it fires right off. thinking it was a fluke i turn it off and it fires right up again and a third time. so i decided to see what it would do if i drove it. pull out of the drive way drove it down the road and back no troubles at all parked it killed it. then tried to start it and it fired right up. considering it rained most of the day yesterday and all night i figured maybe something had gotten damp and dried itself out. so i we go run some errands and come back home an hour or so later and the car starts right up so i put it in first and begin to drive it again and it dies and wont restart. so i go and get a cap, rotor, coil, and plug wires. everything on the car looks like it came on the car from the factory so i figured i would try to eliminate some problems. i change everything and the car wont start. so i go back to look everything over again and make sure i got all the plug wires on good and then it starts but idles for about ten seconds and dies. it starts again and when i let the clutch out in neutral it dies again and has not started again.
