I have a 1989 5.0 Convert with a AOd Trans. I blew my head gasket and have had the vehicle at the mechanic shop getting everything fixed back up. Mechanic bolts it all up and now tells me the car will not idle. I took the air intake off and found there was muddy looking oil in the intake. I have hot dipped the intake and butterfly. Car still will not idle. Car idled before I took it to the shop but ran like crap at idle. Any help or suggestions are greatly appriciated. My car has been in the shop for 6 weeks now and I want to get it fixed so I can enjoy the summer.

If the mechanic you use isn't you, there is little hope for you. :( The "mechanic" will soon own your wallet and all that is in it. However, if you do your own mechanic work except for certain things, the following link to a tech note will help you find and fix the problem.

See the "Surging Idle Checklist for help with all your idle/stall problems.

The quick and easy way to dump the codes is in there too, and all you need to do it is a paper clip! The first two posts contain all the updates to the fixes. At last count there were 24 possible causes and fixes for surging idle/stall problems. I continue to update it as more people post fixes or ask questions.

I suggest you find a new mechanic! 6 weeks is a long time to be in the shop:mad:
