Need info about the Pinion Seal?

Pinion seal goes on the rear end where the drive shaft connects to the rear end. If these places are telling you need things, you need to have them show you why. This is why these places get so much. You wouldn't even know the difference if it was replaced. Go to Google and search pinion seal and read about it a little, and GET A BOOK

If you would like to do some of these repairs yourself, I would suggest doing a Google on factory shop manuals for your car. Reprints are available for most applications, and can be had for somewhere around $50. Best investement you can make.

Pinion seals on your own in the driveway can be tough as the pinion nut needs to be torqued to about 225 ft/lbs. That's a huge number with hand tools. Unless it's really wet, you may not need it.

I used to manage corporate fleets of cars, and we used Firestone and Goodyear stores for a lot of the PM. Without a doubt, 99% of the time they tried to sell you things you don't need. Find a good local independent for a second opinion.
