Ok, ive gone to the track again this weekend and had a great time. Unfortunately i dont feel like my Ets and mph are getting any better (in sig). My best 60' over the last two weekends was a 2.14, but the average is probly around a 2.3 . The car has 3.73s and dynoed at 233/298. How do you guys with similar lighly modified set ups drive? Launching rpm and technique, shift points, etc? Thanks

well, pulling a 2.0 60' and a 14.2 1/4@96... I'd say your launch needs severe help... I imagine you are kinda bogging down after the launch... the cure for this after a full year of testing is to let your car idle until you see the first of the 3 yellow go... (might be diff for you...) then, basically floor it! you should start to slip the clutch right around the end of the 2nd light... and go by the green... if you did it right, you're RPMs will continue to raise, and you will not bog... now, if you can hook up, you'll get low 1/4 and really low 60'... you're MPH are what I'd expect from your set up...

-btw, I ran those w/ only the CAI and pulleys and the shifter... (timing at 12 too...) on street tires... so take from that what you wil....

Buy sticky tires. With a 1.8 60 foot, you are looking at mid 13's if you are shifting properly. I have no idea what your mods are, but a good shift point would probably be around 5600 or 5700. You are never going to know your cars true potential until you get it on a set of tires that is made for the type of racing you are competing in.

What kind of drag radials would you recommend, nitto or bfg? (i dont want to use full slicks at this time)

I personally like ET Streets... that way you can drive to the track, and race it too..

-and I wouldn't shift that high... I'd say around 5200... that's where I shift at... took many practice runs to find the fastest 1/4 for shifts...

ET streets are the best "drag radial" on the market, but they are more like cheater slicks than anything else. They have minimal tread, and if you get caught in any type of rain, it could get ugly quick. BFG's are great drag radials, but shouldn't be driven on the street that much because they wear very fast - at the track, they produce almost the same short times as ET streets do.

He can shift his car higher than 5200, remember he's got better heads and a Cobra manifold which should give him atleast another 400 or 500 RPM of breathing capabilities that the GTs do not have.

well, I say shift there because of the torque curve... shifting at 5200 puts me right at the peak of it (a little below actually) and I'm pretty sure the torque curves are nearly similar for GT/cobra... I know he CAN, but I doubt it would help his 1/4... maybe his MPH, but that's doubtful...
