I spend most of my time in the classic forums, I have a 65 coupe. I am looking at picking up a 91 fox this weekend. I need some opinions on if this is a good deal, and what a realistic price is for a car like this. I have been looking around and trying to get a feel for their values. I want to know if I decided to sell this car I could get back what I paid. I do realize once modification starts typically that money is rarely recouped. So that said the car is:

91 GT mustang
Red - Paint is in good condition, not perfect but not bad
Interior is in good condition, not perfect but not bad
GT 40 Heads
303 Cam
Short Shifter
BBK Headers
Flowmaster Mufflers
K&N Cold Air
2.5 Cowl Hood with hood Pins
Car is lowered I would say around 1.5" (forgot to ask)
More parts as well but thats a good overview.

They are asking around 3K for the car. Is this a sound decision?

you could find stock mustangs in that condition for a little less. YOu can get GT40 heads and intake for about $350 at the junkyard off any 95-97 Ford Exploder 5.0 V8. It all depends on how hard the car has been driven. You are right you never recoupe the money you put into it. I would look around a little more. Try craigslist in other areas of the country just to get a feel for prices. Happy Hunting
