Ok i have a 1990 Gt and i put in a new motor some time ago. Now its been messed up since day one. I had a local shop put it in. And i have had problems. First of all it runs so rich that there is gas coming out of the mufflers when running. Secondly when you drive the car around for a while and then shut it off, then try and start it agian its like the battery is dead, and will just click once not start or anyhting just one click. But if you let it sit for a while and cool it will start agian. I have no clue why its doing this and it runs the battery down as well. And now its not starting at all. It just clicks once when trying to start. So I need to now how to fix the richness problem, and the starting problem. The car runs like crap and really hesitant. And i dont wanna spend anymore money on it ii wanna do it myself. So any help would be awsome, thanks.

Put a heat shield on your starter, or it may be too late and the starter is junk. And as far as the rich problem is, I would start by checking fuel pressurel. I had a turbo coupe that the fuel pressure regulater went bad on, and it had over 100 lbs of fuel pressuer and blew gas out the pipes. If it was ok before the install, maybe they pinched the return line, that would cause super high fp also.

check your timing, make sure its not off or dis is loose. make sure you have a strong spark, check your grounds to the starter.

Ok how can i adjust the fuel pressure. I dont have a aftermarket one so can u on the stock ones? Also the starter seems to be fine. Could it maybe be a silinoid?

Can't adjust fuel pressure with stock regulator. You need to have it checked with a fule pressure gauge to see if it is to high. Also sounds ike your starter is gone. You can jump the solenoid to see if it starts, but pleae make sure is in neuatral or park if it is an auto and the parking brake is set before doing that.

Ok tried jumping it and it did nothing. So it is probally the starter right? The starter would run batterys down like that though?

Here's a checklist:

Check battery, terminal connections, ground, starter relay switch (also known as solenoid) and starter in that order.

A voltmeter is handy if you are familiar with how to use it to find bad connections. Measure the voltage drop across a connection: more than .5 volts across a connection indicates a problem.

1.) Will the car start if it is jumped? Then clean battery terminals and check battery.

2.) Check the battery to engine block ground, and the ground behind the engine to the firewall.

3.) Then pull the small push on connector (red wire) off the starter relay (Looks like it is stuck on a screw) and jump it to the terminal that is connected to the battery. If it starts, the relay is good and your problem is in the rest of the circuit.

4.) Remember to check the ignition switch, neutral safety switch on auto trans and the clutch safety switch on manual trans cars. If they are good, then the relay is bad.

5.) Jump the big terminals on the starter relay next to the battery with a screwdriver - watch out for the sparks! If the engine cranks, the starter and power wiring is good. The starter relay is also known as a starter solenoid.

6.) The starter may be hung, loosen up the bolts that hold it on, and give it a good whack with a big hammer. Tighten up the bolts and try again.

7.) If that doesn't work, use a jumper cable from the positive lead on the battery direct to the starter post where the big wire from the relay connects. If it cranks then, it is the power wire from the relay gone bad. This will be hard to do, since there isn't much room to do it.

8.) Pull the starter and take it to Autozone or Pep Boys and have them test it. Starter fails test, then replace it. If you got this far, the starter is probably bad.
