Need Some Help Please With My 2000 3.8 V 6 Mustang My Alternator

About 3 months ago my alternator went out so I got a new one and new battery well last week my wire melted on the back of the alternator got a new one cost me about $200. Now my car keeps dying I am unplugging my battery everywhere I go and its working like.that but now either my alternator is not holding a charge or is draining my battery or vice a versa.... please help me with any inputs
