need some help

well my 93 GT has been garaged for winter, and i'm home for christmas break this weekend. Before i put it away, i was having troubles with it (it stalled and when i would try and start it up it had major surging idle problems and then would die). started up fine and idle perfect this week. Well I figured i'd start on my head swap while i had some free time and maybe try and figure out what the problem was with it. Well anyways, i jacked up the front end and saw a few drops of oil under the rear drain plug. Also the plate on the front of the tranny is missing a bolt, and is pulled maybe 1/2 inch out. the oil looks like its running down this plate from the back of the engine somewhere. no more has leaked, and it didnt appear until i jacked it up (i definitly checked for any leaks before i did anything).

what do you guys think?

i can get pics, does anyone understand what i'm saying?

obviously the bold missing from the tranny is bad.

but are there any common places where oil would leak from and drain down this place? nothing is off the motor yet (heads,intake,etc.). i have ~37-40 oil press on start-up, 10w30 mobil1 synthetic fwiw and was told this is "ok."

sounds like it could be a rear main seal leak. also with your idle i would suspect the TB needs to be cleaned and so does you IAC.
