ok so i was out driving tonite playin a lil bit since i finally got to drive my car after a week. i hate snow ...so any ways we stop and it smells like burnt oil. so i pop the hood and check it out the whole engine bay seems to be cover in oil...but i have oil pressure. so i go to leave to take it home and when i turn the wheel and the belt just slips on the pulley. Is it possible for the power steering fluid to get all over the engine bay. mind you the pass side side of the motor is clean...this is the only thing i can think of... how much is it gonna cost to fix and how hard is it?...it kinda sux it has to beak at this point and i dont wanna replace things that i dont need to. any ideas feel free to chime in i really wanna get it fixed

You'll want to ensure that all of your fluid levels are sufficient to drive it, of course, but as long as it's turning the water pump, it should technically be safe. You said the belt is slipping, is it just the power steering pulley that won't turn? Will it turn by hand? (Engine off, so you don't lose fingers!)

If you turned your steering wheel while the car was off, you can spit PS out and all over the engine (the rack displaces fluid that is not being replaced since the pump is not functional. The fluid has to spill out of the vent in the cap).

I would not play around with it. Do as Matt noted. Also be sure all the pulleys are clean and clean the belt (both sides) as best you can. If you have doubts, grab a new belt to keep in the trunk as a spare.

Good luck.

umm i did not try and turn it by hand but it was dark and i couldnt see much. but i didnt turn it while it wasnt runing like it was fine when i left the mall (as far as i know) and when we got to hungry hobo like 10min away it smelt like burnt oil and it was all over...so i poped the hood and started it starts fine runs fine but when i turn the wheel it makes bad noises and the belt spayed oil from it id imagine it was from the belt slipping....but i dont want to drive it and have the belt slip and brake or fall off and then be with out te water pump runing im not going that far but i dont want to have to replace more then i have to

ok well i went and checked everythng and it was fine...put some PS fluid in it and turn the wheel and it sparys all over. i dont know where from but is there a possiblity that it could just b bad seals and i could buy (http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=PWR&MfrPartNumber=8527&PartType=23&PTSet=A) this rebuild it and maybe call it good or would i be safer by gettin a new one?...

You first need to clean things up and watch carefully to see where the fluid is coming from. Otherwise you can end up wasting lots of money replacing parts that didnt need to be replaced.
Good luck.
