*UPDATE* Need the experts

Ok.

At this point I am pretty much done with shops. I have had nothing but problems lately and they have not helped. Enough venting

I just got my car back (I am out of town at the moment unfortunatly so i have to deal with it when i get back.) and it runs way worse then when i took it in for a Headgasket.

Symptoms

Constant Misfire. It has a constant but not steady misfire at all RPMS.

Rough Idle. The idle is rougher then i remember.

Backfiring/Poping from exhaust under deceleration. Pretty loud sometimes.

No Power/Not wanting to rev fast. The car falls on its face. Feels good for a sec then its like hitting a wall as the RPMs climb, but they still climb.

Popping through the intake. I get a wierd pop from what sounds like the front of the car when I shift gears...its right when you apply the throttle from shifting, and the car stumbles real hard.

Also have a what sounds like a lifter tick from the driver side engine. Pretty noticable when the hood is popped

My oil pressure will not go above 35psi. doesnt matter what RPM your at....it drops to 25 at idle. It use to go up to about 50psi. It did not do this before i took it to the shop and was fine even after the blown HG.

I havent had a chance to look at it since i left, but before I left i checked wires/cap/rotor. I have not checked spark plugs and they are the same ones before the HG blow. other then that i will have to wait till i get back.

But just curious as to what you guys think.

I will be dealing with the shop also when i get back, but i am not naming any names right now, but i am very unhappy.

Mike

P.S. also, i guess the spark plugs are the ones from before the headgasket so i think they may be fouled.

Right now i know the loss of power up top is from running 42# injectors on a NA setup as I have not put the blower back on until i go to the tune....just wondering about the other stuff.

Did you check your timing? Mine did that when I did a head gasket cause I had the distrubitor off one tooth really pised the car off. I would check the timing out.

It really sounds like your timinig is off. THe sho pcould have put the distributor in wrong, or it sounds like they crosses some spark plug wires. Also change those plugs, they are undoubtably fouled with coolant.

i like the timing idea. do you have a box or retard mechanism, etc?

make sure they did not go with the non-HO firing order and do check timing. i would be addressing this with the shop BEFORE i do anything, however.

good luck.

First of all, what made you/them decide it was the head gasket? Was there coolant in the oil, exaust in the radiator, oil in the radiator, coolant in the exaust? Have you done a compression check? Were the heads pressure checked while off? Have you checked to see if the EGR system is stuck open?

My oil pressure will not go above 35psi. doesnt matter what RPM your at....it drops to 25 at idle. It use to go up to about 50psi. It did not do this before i took it to the shop and was fine even after the blown HG.

I would look into this. That can be a sign of something cracked.

With it misfiring that bad, the timing would have to be way out of whack. Another possiblity is that there is a problem with your valve train. i.e. a rocker came off, a pushrod is bent or a valve won't seal.

What would be the symptoms of a bad lifter?

1 vote for firing order problems. That would cause the backfiring. The proper firing order is: HO & 351W 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8

Ill double check the firing order but im pretty sure its right!

UPDATE: I replaced the plugs and they were fouled. IT got rid of the misfire under acceleration.

The only problem that is left is MISFIRE under part throttle and between gear changes, it bogs and pops then takes off smooth and fine.

Dont know what the culprit is now. But it revs smooth when under WOT, but start laggin up top due to what i think is the 42# injectors on the NA. I will be putting the blower back on if i can fix the bog/misfire under part throttle and shifting.

Oh ya and the bog misfire during shifting goes almost all away when fully warm but it still bucks and misfires under part throttle.

Also my BBK Reg will not drop the fuel pressure below 42psi when it is fully out....could that be the culprit?

I was having a bad miss and backfiring and bucking with my car a few months ago. Checked everything like you did. Ended up being the PIP/ stator/ whatever you call it in the distributor. Replaced it with another known good distributor and it runs great. Something else to look at.

Good luck!
