Roush New 2003 S281/Exhaust too quiet

I just bought my brand new S281 about 2 weeks ago. I absolutely love the car. I don't like how quiet the exhaust is though. It says it comes with the Saleen x pipe and catback system. I got under the car and looked at the mufflers and they are magnaflows. Has anyone changed the mufflers or the x pipe? I know magnaflow makes a quiet muffler and an enhanced muffler-Which one is on the car?

Borla made the system on mine, which got slightly lauder after a while. I am unfamiliar with how the Saleen-spec. Magnaflow cat back sounds in comparison. I did, just this year, install a two-cat Magnaflow X-Pipe on in place of the four cat Ford H-Pipe. I gained a little but noticeable increase in volume and the exhaust sounds edgier now. I don’t know why Saleen bothered with making their own X-Pipe as it still has four cats.

I would suspect the mufflers on your cat back are the more civil model Magnaflows.

Do you have an emissions testing program in your area? Obviously, you will get a more substantial difference in sound if you install an off road, cat-less X-Pipe.

No emmission testing here. I am thinking about going with a Magnaflow o/r x pipe.

Congrats on the purchase. Saleen is now using Magnaflows, but due to having 4 cats, they are not as loud as a car with an off-road x-pipe.

You should check out the Saleen Club of America

Being in IL has you in the central region where we just had our Saleen Fest Midwest, and the Central Region is hosting the Saleen Club of America National Show next August.

I think I get my first year with the Saleen Club of America for free right? I remember the dealer telling something about it. I'm still waiting on my Team Saleen jacket and goodies to come too!

While we have sent info to all the Saleen Dealers, and have a couple "Dealer Members" of the Club, I do not know of any offering to buy their customers membership in the Club for the first year.

We are a new club that launched officially on January 1, 2004, although the SCOA had been in the works for about 2 year prior to that date.

justin....welcome to the Saleen world! My 02 S281-E has the Borla system and it seemed rather quiet, but over the last 1000 miles is getting louder. My mechanic said it will get louder...something about breaking down the honeycombs or something. Anyway, drive, drive, drive!

borlas here...when i put a bassani o/r pipe on there...holy cow! stick an o/r pipe on there and you won't believe what that thing sounds like!

I heard several of Saleen’s new cars as they were being placed around the parking lot for the show Saturday. They were quieter than the older model, Borla-equipped cars.

yeah man mine was too, so i got crazy but BBK Long Tubes and Off Road X and Bassani Exhaust, it sounds killer!!!!!!
