How many miles does it take for rings to fully seat?

My freind just did a 4cyl conversion w/ a new 306 and he drove it about 500 miles and then changed the oil and went to the race track. His car doesnt smoke or anything.

500 miles of town driving?? or road trip mine is smoking a little bit but only got about 100 miles on it Am hoping this goes away

Give it plenty of low rpm, open throttle passes to help seat the rings. I would drive it like that for at least 500-1000 miles before racing it.

Also is running a bit rich,I have replaced everything such as sensors,ran codes and the only one I got was 22 which is the MAP sensor and I replaced it as well.Im pretty much out of ideas.Im kinda leaning towards the heads as the problem.There off a 1966 289 machined for loc-wire head gaskets,Duel springs good up to .650 lift,Titanium guides,bronze valve guides,Titanium retainers,all hardened seats,1.98 manley severe duty valves,1.6-guide plates,comp cams 1.6 rollertip rockerarms,fully ported,comp cams hardened pushrods,E-303 cam,no EGR,24Lb injectors w/ calibrated pro-M.Any ideas would be great.
