New 5.0 Owners With CAI/Tunes

Just curious so far as to what guys with CAI/Tunes are getting on the Dyno and/or track times, so If you have a pre/post dyno or 1/4 mile times, please post...

Mine:

Steeda CAI with Custome Tune and SCT X3

Pre: 345/306 Post: 385/360 AUTO in 3rd gear 382/370 in 4th.

no Times yet.

RC I will be putting my car back on the dyno within the next two weeks and will be able to give you a decent idea. I will also be hitting the track this Friday

I know this doesn't compare much but I ran a 12.3 the other day on the pirellis and my prior best was a 12.54 on a night that had a da that was around -800. The intake helped a bit

Steeda ProFlow Cold Air Intake on an otherwise stock 2011 5.0L Mustang has achieved a blistering 1/4 mile time of 11.96 at over 115mph!

I currently have the Steeda CAI & Tune. The car will be getting put on the dyno Feb 12th to see what it makes and then custom tuned by Torq. I'll be able to post before and after numbers then

I just got my 5.0 and it has a stock CAI....what are the benefits of switching this one out for any of these other ones? A CAI is a CAI, right?

Contrer mo frer.

The after market ones have a HUGE inlet and filter and are much less restrictive. You can do a tune without CAI and still pick up power, but so far in these new cars the combo is the best bang for the buck...under a grand for 25-40 RWHP plus much crisper driving.

Steeda CAI went together and installed perfectly. My problem is the programmer. Pretty sure I did all the right steps in the correct sequence, from updating firmware to turning the key to on when instructed. No read with an error code displayed on device, 1038, at least I think that was the code displayed, notes not in front of me at the moment.

Any thoughts? Troubleshooting help from the website isn't helping. I did send an email to support so we'll see what they say. Thought I'd inquire here though looking around I can't find much discussion of "troubles". I did see Chrissie's post though no eventual outcome.

If you bought the stuff from Steeda, they will help you..call and ask for Gus.

I got Steeda Intake, BBR Tune, FRPP Springs, American Thunder Exhaust. No dynos, I ran a 12.6 @ 113 on the factory pirellis with little/no traction. Now Ive got LCAs and the Boss 302 manifold, and Im heading back to the track for the Pony Wars thing at SGMP. I want to break 11's on factory tires, no bottle, and N/A.

Well, it seems as though I was one of the very few that got a malfunctioning SC3. Worked through it with Gus, a very nice fella by the way, and the thing is on it's way back to Steeda with the promise of a quick turn-around for a new one. Ah well, I guess I'll just have to keep driving the wife's 335i 'vert to work for another few days.

Poor me. ;-)

I hit up Gus for all my tuning needs (he did 4-hr dyno on my car) and Todd for sales.. GOOD GROUP over there!

Kinda related question, as I found this on Steeda's site:

Notice the tach turns RED when he hits redline. Is this a "tune" feature or stock feature of the stick 5.0s? I assume it only works when the lights are on?

Anyone? Beuller?

standard feature for the premium not sure if its just manuals.

Another reply...heh..

I just installed my Bama tunes that I got from AM. I installed the 93 race tune (also have 91 Perf, and 87 Street).

I found it a bit "odd" as the tune was loading...the gauges would do some fluttering and the engine would do some clunking (even though it was off). This would happen a few times during the process. Thankfully, nothing bad was happening (or WAS THERE?!)

I didn't get ON it yet...but I will tell you this...it's like someone moved the torque curve to the left! Just poking around in 3, 4, 5 on the street...lean on the gas a little and the car moves out!

I did go past 4K in 2nd for a brief moment, and it seemed like all hell was going to break loose, so I shifted. LOL...I'm a girl

I'm at 15% oil (with only 4500 miles!!)...so I don't wanna flog the car yet. Getting an oil change this week...along with Roush mufflers. All bets are off come the weekend.

Do you guys think it's "safe" to run a "race" tune on a daily driver? Or would I be better off going to my 91 performance tune...or getting a 93 performance tune?

A few things I've noticed about a pre-tune stock 5.0:
1. At redline, there is a fuel cut-off, not a rev-limiter. When you hit it, the car will nose-dive due to lack of fuel. I was hoping for a rev-limiter. I found this out in 1st gear this past weekend trying to merge into 4 lanes of fast moving traffic.

2. As I grabbed for 2nd gear (see above) at redline, the Pirelli P-Zero's on the "Brembo" wheels...don't really chirp/squawk/patch/bark...as they seem squirm a little, bite and keep on going. I suppose this is faster, but sometimes it's nice to leave a patch in someone's ear as you drive by their open window.

I guess that's it. I like what I see so far...and I haven't seen much!
