NEW clutch installed...Still hard to put in gear???

well my flywheel was warped and was shaking like hell on take off because of it but yesterday it was hard as hell to put it in any gear at any speed, i went ahead and put a new flywheel and clutch, anyways when i had everything apart i noticed that the steeda cable was buckling at the firewall by the adjuster, will this make it hard to engage the gears??? i hope so as everything else is new, i need to know so i can go buy a cable today.

the cable buckling could very well be the cause of the car not going in gear. the clutch may not be disengaging from the flywheel properly because of that. when i did mine on both of my stangs i replaced the quadrant and added the adjuster with the stock cable. the one time i used the steeda cable, i had problems. try swapping back to the stock cable and see what happens.

Juiced, it definitely sounds like you are not getting enough air gap between the clutch disc and the flywheel. You definitely are on the right track suspecting the cable if its buckling at the firewall.

thanks guys i will go out and buy a new cable today, to bad my local speed shop only carries the steeda one and the delearship doesent stock it so it would be a few days before i saw it.

Where is the point of engagement (pedal near the floor or up high, etc)?

Some guys use a reinforcement plate on the firewall, but I dont see why a stock clutch assembly would need that.

MM has decent prices on SN95 cables as I recall, if you choose to go the OEM-style cable route.

Yeah I had kinda the same problem, and it was because of my clutch cable. That is why I'm thinking about going Hydraulic :-D. Then I won't have to deal with the cable binding up or breaking.

I run the pro motion quick release quadrant and firewall adjuster/stabilizer. Its made so that the firewall itself also doesn't distort like Hissin mentioned above. Beware aftermarket cables too as 99% of them are a fox cable and do not have the 94-95 specific frame bracket located near the battery, this can also cause some issues. If you want a QUALITY firewall adjuster IMO the pro motion setup is second to none. It also offers more air gap than any other quadrant on the market due to its ramp design.

Nice set up Paul. I have a quick release quad and reinforced FWA ready to install. Once I have two good arms again, I will toss them in. I am replacing some older QR quad - interested to see how they compare.

In talkin to Wyt last week or so, I realized that the oem style SN cables are hard to come by (I sent him a Diversified link, but it is the fox cable which is the screamin deal there). The SN cable is longer........

A lot of the LT fox guys use the SN cable from MM and have nothing but good to say about them - no personal experience with that piece myself though. (EDIT: Oops, I already kinda mentioned all that before). Paul will have the hook up on prices for other options.
