I currently have a 2000 GT with a Procharger P-1SC, a 2-core intercooler, Accufab 75mm & TB, Bassani mid-length headers, Bassani catted X-pipe, a MagnaPak catback, Sportline springs, Pro3 c/c kit, KYB adjsutable shocks/struts, Saleen 17"x9" wheels, and MM SFCs. It's an automatic, and it has to stay that way (or I need a hand clutch), because my right leg is artificial (difficult, and probably not legal, to use the gas pedal with it). I put down 346 RWHP as it currently stands.

To explain my situation, I recently broke 100,000 miles on this daily driven car. I live East of Annapolis, MD and drive through DC into Northern VA for work...I add about 100 miles a day. Next summer I'll be moving to where I work...close enough to walk/Metro to work. I'll also have over 130,000 miles on the car next summer, so it will be time to either get a new car, or rebuild this one. For as much $$ as I've sunk into this car, I'm definitely leaning towards keeping it; it's a blast to drive too.

So I'm going to want to rebuild my powertrain or purchase a new powertrain for the car. Money IS an issue.

What I'm basically looking to do here is get myself three or four options, with an estimated price tag for each. As I've learned, planning these things is key...it's also good to have a plan in case something blows up, too ::knock on wood::.

I've always wanted a four valve motor, but I understand that a DOHC is going to be more expensive. I also want forged internals, but again, I understand how pricy they are.

A few questions:

You can upgrade the impeller in the P-1SC to go from 8 psi to about 15 psi (D-1SC?), right? I remember reading this a while back.

Can I use this blower on a four valve motor?

How much RWHP/TQ can the stock tranny take?

I figure I've got a few options. The cheapest:

A) Take apart the current engine, see what needs to be replaced, put it back together.

B) Do a stronger 2-valve build; probably with forged internals and more boost.

C) Build the 4-valve engine that I've always wanted. (Maybe look for a wrecked Terminator.)

I don't even want to get into torque converter, tranny, or rear issues until I've got some solid engine ideas. This car will probably continue to be my only car. It won't be a daily driver if I move near work, but it will be my only vehicle for a while.

Any input is appreciated!

P.S. I have a decent amount of general knowledge - but not much hands on knowledge at all. I've been into cars since before I could drive; but my technical understanding is on par with whatever tech articles are in MM&FF or 5.0 Mustang, various Internet boards, or watching/helping people work on my car.

You dont need a 4 valve to make the power you want.
get some I beam rods and good pistons (18cc dish manley c/r = 8.9:1), keep the stock crank and build up a new block. propowerparts.com. call and ask for bill. I get most of my parts from him. Absolute best prices and support on engine parts. Could also help your decision making process a lot. --I'm making over 600 at the rear on a stock crank, I beams, and manley pistons.

Also, get that torque converter in there while the motor is out.

good luck man.

Just buy a shortblock from http://modularmustangracing.com/ . Then use your stock heads. It might be a LITTLE more expensive then rebuilding the engine, but at least it will be done right the first time.
