I have stock headers, bbk, h-pipe (no cats) and 2 chamber flows on my coupe and it sounds badass. However every other mustang sounds the same and i want something a little bit more intense. I was thinking, hustler long tube headers, bassani off-road x-pipe, and bassani street competition mufflers dumped. What do you guys think/ Will the sound and performance gains be worth it?

i would say go for it. i cant see any reason not too and the elimination of the stock headers and going to long tubes is prolly worth it alone.

If the exhaust mods are all you have on the car, I don't think you'll see significant gains from the change. The long tubes may pick up the bottom a bit, but the factory headers don't really limit the motor until you get up into the 280HP range. Will it sound different? Probably. Will you like it? Unfortunately you won't know unless you try. If you think it sounds 'badass' now, I'd leave well enough alone.

Do you have the stock (whimpy) 2 1/4" tails on it right now?
I put 3 1/2" X 18"slash cut tails on mine (I had 2 1/2" ones) and it made a BIG difference in the sound!
That is a cheap and easy way to change the way your car sounds (I'm not sure of a performance + or - with a stock motor)
And they look "bad A$$"! (some pics in the link below).

long tubes were a good performance improvement on my stock motor. Sound is definatly more authoritive... deeper, and yes, louder.

Personally I prefer the sound of an H pipe over the sound of an X pipe on domestic/muscle cars.

With long tubes, and off road mid pipe, there is no way I'd run dumps on a car with a metal roof. If it's a convert... ahh, not even then... not for me.

Interesting, my long tubes were quieter than my shorties, and I've heard that it is not uncommon.

As for the H vs. X -- they sound different -- but I don't know if I like the sound of one over the other.

I'd probably just leave well enough alone to be honest -- there are much better things to spend hundreds (or thousands) of dollars on that will net you more, IMO.

Michael, did you ever open that exhaust shop? (as i recall, you have tried quite a few combos and have a real good idea of what you like. ).

exactly, and that's why if all you are looking for is a different sound, my suggestion will offer that for about $70.00 installed.

I agree, but let me ramble on a second... .
My situation was, 1-5/8" long tubes vs stock shorties, and it was definatly more audible after.
now, compare 1-5/8" shorties to 1-5/8"LT's, and the I agree LT's will be be less harsh on the ears.
I've never seen dba tests on the two setups, but, it's my belief that one is no quieter than the other.
I "think" that shorties produce a raspier, more hysterical sound that is just plain harder on the ears...
Where LT's produce a deeper, more bass-y authoritive sound...
My "opinion" is, shorties are like listening to a cheap radio, and LT's are like listening to a good home stereo...

Now, I thought my car was more quiet after the LT swap too... and asked my wife her opinion, which was - it's definatly louder but sounded better. She said she could hear the car comming from much further away... but that was compared to stock shorties.

again, all subjective.

There are alot of things that determine the tone of the exhaust. The wall thickness and material of the headers can have a big effect and the same with the intermediate (H or X) pipe. The mufflers obviously, and the diameter and length of the tail pipes. Another big factor is the heads or exhaust port size.
I get compliments on my exhaust sound all the time.
Mac 3/4" unequal length shorties, BBK off road H, Flowmaster 2 chambers, (all 2 1/2") and 3 1/2" tails.
The interior drone of the Flowmasters is totaly starting to bug me though, but with the top down it's wonderfull.
I have a Mac H-pipe with high flow cats that I put on every two years for smogging, and obviously the cats make it sound different but I also think it has alot to do with the wall thickness of the tubing. The Mac is thicker then the BBK H.
I had some Flowtech long tubes for a while and because of their thin walled tubing they sounded much more raspy then my friends JBA long tubes with the same mufflers.
Just throwing out some more exhaust babble for ya.

Check out the exhaust mods in the sig on the coupe.

It's quiet at idle and cruising around, but jump on it, and it screams, which is what I wanted. I imagine a HCI swap in the future will make it a bit louder at all levels though.

well i want new exhaust because i am set on long tubes so the mid-pipe and bufflers i have now won't fit with the new headers. So i figured go the whole way and get different exhaust.

Many, many variables impact noise level and perhaps more importantly, noise quality. Two vehicles can measure exactly the same db level, and have drastically different impacts on the human ear from a sound quality perspective. A lot of it has to do with the frequency of the sound generated and how that resonates with other stuff in the vehicle(s). So trying to compare systems is almost impossible. You're almost forced to experiment on your own to find out what's gonna work for your car/set up. And sound clips are the biggest joke --- well, don't get me started. I've given up on the aftermarket and am about to construct a custom system (it's always custom on my rag) using stock C5 Corvette mufflers - yes, I'm too old.

The one thing I've heard consistently is that long tubes seem to do a better job of minimizing or eliminating the resonance that occurs for many 5.0'ers at around 1900-2200 rpm. Other than that consistency - it's trial and error boys.

H has a more classic muscle car sound.
X is more raspy, nascar-ish. That's my opinion.

LTs will quite the exhaust down.
Stright through mufflers are louder then chambered ones if you believe the hype.
It's up to you on what brand mufflers to run.

or using different size mufflers for resonance tuning (driver side vs passenger).
