new flywheel

im about to put in my new clutch but instead of deciding to resurface my flywheel im gunna get a new one, what a good light weight flywheel that will last me a long time and help improve my acceleration? i mean im not sure what to look in a flywheel with how many teeth it has and what have you

You need a 157 tooth 50oz imbalanced flywheel for a factory short block. Light weight billet aluminum flywheels are generally not recommended for daily drivers.

what role does the amount of teeth have in a flywheel, also what would be considered light weight?

The only real role I believe that the teeth play are wiht the mesh of the starter that's designed to fit in your car. If your car is a daily driver then all you really need is a regular ole steel flywheel. They weigh roughly 20 to 23 lbs. If your car is a daily driver and you need something track certified then get Billet Steel. The lightweight aluminum flywheels are pretty much track only. You will lose some drivability as a result of the loss of inertia from a lighter flywheel.

Yeah on a daily driver (as Dagger suggested) you need to keep some of that "heavy" inertia...

Here is the part number for a stock replacement flywheel - 397-M-6375-B302 and it runs for $100...

i guess they dont make one that is street and strip friendly?

That would be the billet steel that I mentioned above. It's not necessary unless you're doing allot of racing and are down in the 11s (or faster) though.

so the perfect one for me would be just like a ford racing stock flywheel replacement? the 99.95 one on summit

Yep.... That's what I run. No sense in spending money you don't need to for no performance improvement. The only reason I can of that "MIGHT" make getting something different worth swapping are those flywheels that have replacable friction surfaces. Again though, it has no real advantage for anything other than an all out race car and just costs more money.

Yeah that is the one I have on my car right now (put it in a month ago)...just like the factory one...because it is

If I ever add more power I will upgrade to the Billet Steel but there is no need for it right now...

5spd when i look in your sig though you have a bunch of power upgrades already, how much power can ford racing sotck replacemnt fly wheel handle?

The way I understand it is the "stronger" flywheels (billet steel for example) are needed in the higher horsepower cars because in those cars you will need a more "unstreetable clutch" that grabs hard and doesn't slip under the power. Now with the harder hitting clutches like a spec stage 3 they can tear up a stock flywheel material with how hard they grab. So in order to prevent this you would want a "stronger" flywheel (more durable and can take abuse).

So basically if you run a lot of power you need a clutch that will hold the power...but with the stouter clutch you need (preferably) a better flywheel.

There really isn't a set power level to or when to switch your flywheel. I would do it for piece of mind if I had h/c/i (already have that) and if I was to add a supercharger...I would do it most likely even though I probably wouldn't need it technically. I would need a new clutch (because the current one would slip if I added more power - supercharger) so I would just put in a new flywheel...
