Hey ya'll. I just recently recieved my first car... a 66 GT replica mustang. Im in love with her. Red with white pony interior. Here are some pics if ur interested (in car stuff folder)
http://www.pix8.net/pro/album.php?u_id=1596KorAe

anyways, my car as a 302 in it (rebuilt orignial owner put it in there instead of 289) and i want to give it a little bit more oomph if u know what i mean. So this is what i was thinking. A new Intake manifold because i wanna go to 4bbl. For the carb i was thinking 600fm holley 1850-2? As for the intake ya'll will need to help there. Headers will be next... im beggining to see long tube headers are popular is that the best way to go? Ive also heard of tri-y headers. So if there are any other some what not expensive performance upgrades i have forgotten please list them. Thanks guys im happy to be part of the club.

Sounds exactly like me when I first bought my car. Welcome to Stangnet. For the intake I'd go with either the Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap or the Holley Weiand Stealth. Both are nice dual-planes that will give you good throttle response and power til about 6k. Headers are definately a good route, and longtubes are said to be better if you don't mind the low ground clearance that you will have (You'll most likely have to go over speed bumps and up driveways at an angle). Putting a whole new exhaust system on would benefit you well and is relatively inexpensive. Carb sounds good. Upgrade to electronic ignition if you haven't already. There's a million upgrades to be done, but those should get you started on the right track. You may want to consider new, wider tires, I can't really tell what you have on there right now, but tires make a big difference.
Good luck! Got questions, ask em, some guys on here know just about everything there is to know.

yea i DEFINTLY want tires. Probaly gonna get some spiders since there original looking or whatever.. What kind of cost is this stuff gonna run me? i kno headers are around 180~ and carb cant be to much.. but i dunno about intake. Ill do some research. Thanks for your response and keep the suggestions coming guys.

**edit**

i was looking at the RPM Air-Gap 302 (1500-6500 rpm) for the 302 and it says this down at the end. "Will not fit 255 c.i.d. V8. Recommended intake gasket: Edelbrock #7220.
Manifold Height: A-4.30", B-5.50" see manifold selection page. Port exit dimensions: 1.04" x 1.85". Does that mean im gonna have to buy something else to make it fit? Also, how much does this intake manifold cost.. it doesnt display on the eldebrock website. Thanks

As it says, just the intake gasket, no biggie. As far as parts go, either
www.jegs.com
OR
www.summitracing.com

will suit your needs with the lowest price available. Tires shouldn't be too expensive at all...rims are another story.

My recommendation on an intake is a current Ford A321 , or Edelbrocks old F4B, Ford's old C9OX or the Shelby Cobra high rise. All these are basically the same intake, and work well with your motor and a Holley 600. Headers? Go with tri-Y's, you'll get the benefit of long tubes plus there's no ground clearance issues. s for ignition, you cna't beat a Pertronix unit in your stock distributor, along with a good set of wires and plugs and a hotter coil.
