New Info from AAI - 2004 production numbers

My first post so bear with me. My close relative is on the launch team at AAI so I ordered one of these a month ago, but have been following this thread for info the last 4 months or so and appreciate all the insight. I am not a gear head, and have never owned a sportscar but this vehicle looks fun to drive so I said what the hell.

Anyway, with job-1 2 weeks away, the plant released the 2004 production numbers and they will be building 44,000 of these by 12/31. There are 10,000 dealerships in the Ford network, although certain dealerships will be getting larger allocations so that is not much help. If I hear anyhting else I'll keep you updated

Small dealerships only get two at a time; large ones 3 at a time. Units must be sold an off the lots in order to take delivery of the next allotment.

Ford has said since January that Job 1 is Sept 7, which is 5 weeks from today. If Job 1 has really been moved up by 3 weeks to 2 weeks from now - August 17 - that would be really big news ( and great news too).

I'm not saying I don't belive you, but that would be a big suprise from Ford, so I'm anxiously awaiting any confirming info. on this.

I hate this slow release stuff. They always do this with cool new cars. Why cant they just build a huge amount and satisfy the needs of the consumer??? JEEZ!!!!

Always get amazed at the number of answers you can get to "When is Start of Production"?
Material people work toward the material due date, which is a few weeks before the cars start build.
There is the body shop quick off day, which is before the finished job off the line day.
Then on every launch I've ever seen, there is a hold at the factory for several weeks, while a sufficient volume of cars is built up, then inspected and signed off on a "ship to dealer" meeting.

Possible that Ford released the Ship to dealer date, and the newer date is a material date, or even the day the first job is off the line, only to set for several weeks???

so hows that work with them only having 2-3 stangs per lot. what if i want a stang with different options than the ones at my dealer? i dont want to have to drive somewhere else to find one that i want.

Either that or order one and wait for it to be delivered. It should work the way it does now.

I personally would say do a dealer search. But in the beginning you are better off ordering.

I talked to my dealer today, and they said they had 5 slots open for 05's, only 3 on order atm... if they released some pricing info, I'd jump all over getting into one of those slots that are left

What do you not know about pricing? Ford has said repeatedly that the 05 stang will be priced around 2% - 5% higher than an equivalent 2004 Stang.

You can do as many others have, work out a deal with your dealer that says you pay a price that is a specific $$ amount over invoice (like $500 over their invoice). I bet you will also be able to get the dealer to agree that if the MSRP comes in greater than 5% over an 04 they let you out of the deal.
