Ok, I just got done installing a MGW shifter. Drove the car around and everything shifts fine, so far seems like I will like it. Only problem I am having is that it is extreamly loud.(transmission.). I had a BBK one on before this one and it wasnt near as loud. Isnt this suppose to be the quietest shifters out there? The only thing I can think of is the inner boot. Mine was cut in the center when I installed the BBk shifter. In the MGW instructions it says make sure that it is not cut because it uses it to seal the assembly to make it quiet. Any one know where I can get a new one? Or have any other suggestions why it is so loud. Thanks guys.

Well, if the inner boot is cut, it's probably causing the noise. You could get a new one from the Ford parts counter, or Randy Stinchcomb at Modular Depot.

Secondly, did you follow the instructions for applying the RTV? If you don't put enough on, or overtighten those bolts, it'll just squeeze it all back out. You should let the RTV sit for a half hour or so to get tacky, then tighten the bolts down so it doesn't squeeze it all back out.

Mine is QUIETER than the stock one was.

Thanks, I took it all all apart again and used a gaket I had + more RTV. It is a lot quiter now. Maybe I didnt use enough RTV at first. Any who, it is better now. Im still going to get a new inner boot so It will be even more quiet. I can say now that it is 10x better than my old BBK.

I have zero noise from mine, same as the stock shifter was. I did buy the gasket from Mustangtuning instead of using the RTV because it was recommended by a guy at work who used it in his Cobra. MGW makes a great shifter, I still cant believe how it changed the whole personality of my car
