I just bought a new 2004 GT Coupe. This is my second Mustang. Previously, I had a 98 GT coupe (traded in on 01 Formula). I'm mainly an F-Body guy, but since GM had nothing to offer me this time around, I decided to go back to Ford. I have a couple questions about the car.

1. What dyno numbers do these cars produce in stock form?

2. What's the best catback system for these cars? I'd like to keep the cost below $500 (parts and labor).

3. What problem areas should I be aware of with regards to overall quality.

1. Usually 15% lower than the numbers for posts, b/c of drivetrain loss.

2. I bought my Magnaflow catback for $300 from www.fulllineexhaust.com
Alot of people will vouch that they love the exhaust too, but it's up to you. Go to www.mustangexhaust.com to listen to the different types.

3. The only problem area is the 3650 transmission. Alot of people have trouble shifting into 2nd and/or 3rd gear when the car is cold, but it gets better after the car warms up. Most people put on an aftermarket shifter like the Steeda Tri-ax or the Pro 5.0, and it seems to help. Hope this helps!

Nice choice of color.

Welcome to the stang crowd once again. I like both borla and bassanni exhausts, but they are both pretty expensive ($500-$600) -- mainly cause they are stainless steel. I couldn't replace a factory stainless steel exhaust with something other than stainless myself, though.

If you want to cut to the chase and get some good power, read around about the different supercharger setups available for the GT. You can make 400rwhp and still have a dependable daily driver with the right blower and tune. On a stock GT with a centrifugal, you should be able to get 350rwhp with just a vortech centrifugal kit. A supercharger is the best bang for your buck mod you can do to the car. It has a significant initial investment cost, but will get you to 350rwhp quite easily.

Just read around the forum here and you'll see all sorts of info about different mods like chips, timing adjusters, and exhausts. You'll learn about the different shops in your area and different suppliers around the net.

I use T&J Performance for most of my parts and service. They have helped several people that you could possibly meet around Maryland and the Northeast.

They dyno at 230-235rwhp. Run low 14's high 13's(very few) and have noisy valve guides.You can weld in flowmasters for around 200 dollars.Mufflers of anykind give sound and very little HP.

Noisy valve guides? SInce when did that become a common problem on newer GT's?

Anyway, 230rwhp/270rwtq seems to be the average on stock 99+ GT's. If you want to go the cheapest route, welding in some mufflers is the way to go. I'd suggest some 1-chamber Flows

any 5 speed can run 13's especially if i watched a bone stock 01 5 spd vert run a 14.03 the other night

Well I must say that I had a 2000 GT 5 spd and with an x-pipe, flows, and drop-in K&N I ran 14.0@100.1mph. This was in Phoenix about 85 degrees and the track is 1600ft elevation.

Now I have a 04' GT 5spd, but I just did some research and found out the catalytic conv. were changed for 04' in order to produce lower emissions!! In other words I was correct when I said that my 04' seemed a bit slower than my 00'! So I changed the h-pipe to a bbk high flow catted H-pipe! I personally love the sound because it sounds more throaty than stock, but no dreaded drone like the flowmasters.

Theres a TSB on the guides. theres atick on the left head.The head gets replaced. I stated some run 13's not that it doesnt happen.

they meaning mustangs. they are all the same. they are all capable of 13's stock

Magnaflow is all Stainless Steel also.

I got mine from full line exhaust too.

Since you have an auto, don't worry about the T-3650 probs.
