I just purchased my son a 98 GT Convertible and on the window sticker it says optional Gear ratio or something to that effect ? Any idea what gears they might be ?
It is a 5spd car ...not sure if that makes a difference or not.

thx

the 98 came stock with 2.73 gear ratio, with the option to upgrade to 3.27 gear ratio. This would give it a bit more acceleration off the line.

I would guess 3.08.I believe that both 2.73s and 3.08s were offered that year.Either way, it needs lower ones

EDIT:Jake may know more than me on the subject since he has a 98 ,
but I believe that until 99 the only way to get the 3.27s from the factory in a GT was with an auto tranny.

Im not sure I need a 16 year old with a Black GT convertible feeling any more Oats than he already will be . I know the GT's of that era are not the quickest machines on the street but they feel plenty fast to a young kid and Im not wanting him to feel like he needs to go out and see how fast it is at every opportunity. Im pretty sure my 03 Maxima would outrun this Mustang but you cant beat that V8 Growl. We sure are enjoying the car so far.

Thx for the help !

Don't doubt yourself b/c of me. I drive a 98 5speed with 2.73's. I thought it was 3.27s that were the option, but now that you say it, i think it was 3.08s as the option. My mistake

Well I wasnt sure what else to get a Son named Shelby !! I certainly couldnt afford to put him into a Shelby Mustang so this will have to do.
Im hoping he will enjoy cars the way that I did when I was his age.
I grew up on Camaros and Chevelles and had a few friends that had Mustangs. Also what size of Tires were stock on the 98 GT the tires on this car seem very narrow..I think they are 225/45/17 Front and Rear.

I have a '98 that came with the optional gear ratio... it is the 3.27 gear.

2.73 was standard on the 5-speed and 3.08 was standard on the autos...

Don't for a minute think the '98 is a slow car. It's just slower than the '99+s. And it doesn't take much to change that.

P.S. I just bought my teenage daughter a '94 V6 convertable. It's good to start them young.
