New Mustang Prices SUCK!

Yes new car prices such, but what can we do about it? People are obviously paying for them because they are selling Mustangs. Of course the recession is hurting things a bit, but they are still selling.

You gotta pay to play with a new Mustang. If they came in AWD, i would :)

seriously man? its 2008. not 1988. look at the prices of a new Camaro. a Vette. ect ect.

damn man are you expecting to pay what people paid back in 1995 ish for a new mustang GT in 2008? inflation. ect. prices go up. you make more. it shouldnt be a big deal, if you can afford to drop that much on a 347 new paint and an interior for you car then whats the big deal paying 35k for a new get? and new gt's at the dealership local to me are 26-30K depeding on opions ect. 35k is like a FULLY loaded vert. even then. thats pretty high if you ask him. how much is the mark up at the dealer you looked at?

aahhhh haaa! i used a big word before darkwriter did!!!!!!!!

i work at a dealership, and i would rather buy a loaded stock GT and put some aftermarket go fast stuff on it and fly past a saleen. the body kits are junk and to get parts from saleen takes MONTHS and i have seen to much junk for a $60k car. that pernelli jones edition is a good looking car, i like the way the saleens look from some angles.

i decided to hop up my 95 instead of buying a stock 05+ gt
price will be about the same in the end, but i got an easy 10 sec sn95 for the price of a stock 08GT...what would you pick...

I dunno....how's the factory warranty holding up on your '95 at this point? ;)

...and aside from strait line acceleration (which you admittedly sunk a pile of your own time and money into to improve), can you honestly say that there's any factory part of your '95 left that equals, or outperforms a strait off the floor '08 from any aspect....honestly?

Don’t get me wrong...if it were me, at this point I would probably go with an earlier SN95/New Edge GT and build from there as well. But I won’t ever attempt to convince myself that it’s the better route or greater deal by any stretch. Its only an initially less expensive one. From any realistic standpoint though, the newer car is always the better deal. :D

the only real reason i dont like the gt500 is because i cant stand shelby, from what ive read, shelby sounds like a real prick. charging people for autographs and suing people over name infractions etc. not to mention ford canned SVT to give shelby, saleen, rousch etc. the job of making special vehicles. look at what SVT had for us, 03/04 cobras, lightnings, focuses, contours, etc. a pretty cool list of vehicles no matter what you wanted, and you didnt pay an extra 10k for some old fart's last name on your trunk. i think this has done a part to ruin ford and put them where they are right now, at least from a performance enthusiast's perspective.

shelby's cars arent that cool, SVT could have done way better imo, and on top of that, i havent seen a single s197 done by saleen or rousch that even looked remotely tasteful. saleen's body kits are the ugliest things ive ever seen.

either way, i totally vote for the 347! :nice:

Just to clear a few things up.

Shelby "charges" people for autographs ($50) which all goes to charity. If you just saw the guy on the street he wouldn't charge you. Basically you donate $50 to Shelby’s charity and you can send him a car part and hell sign it and send it back.

Ford didn't get rid of SVT as a matter of fact SVT has the raptor coming out and has another SVT coming out in 10'-11'. They never went and aren’t going anywhere.

SVT designed the Shelby so if you don't like it be mad at SVT not Shelby. The only thing Shelby contributed was his name and that it needed wider tires. SVT designed and built 100% of that car.

Roush has worked with SVT on pretty much every SVT. Roush was with Ford every step of the way on the 03/04 Cobra.

The markups aren’t Ford or Shelby’s fault they are stupid people that were willing to spend 20k+ over sticker for them. As for the car being more expensive than the 03-04s you have to realize the price of mustangs have gone up in general plus you are getting a lot more car for the money. A stronger trans, motor, better suspension, and just a better overall car in general is going to cost more.

TO the op they are scewing people over on the Shelbys at that lot big time. That is a $5k-10k markup depending on options. You can get Shelbys under MSRP now. Also a dealer in MI they has an 08 GT Premium with Shaker 1000, ambient lighting, HID, and sirius for $18k.

i paid 24k for my 07 a few months ago with the ford racing drag pack on it, with 3400 miles. going from an 94 that was falling apart toa fully loaded gt premium with every option you can think of.

i wanted an 03-04 cobra. but really, i was going to pay 28k or so for one, and get in the car, and have it look and pretty much feel the same inside as my 210k mile 94 gt.

the new s197 platform takes bolt ons extremely well and are already decently fast out of the factory. 13.5s stock was around what the mach 1s were running stock from 03-04. with a good driver theres been even lower then that stock for the s197.

i can take the car to the track and beat on it, and then relax and be comfortable and cruise on the way home.

and i've gotten so many thumbs ups, and nice car, and oh is that your car? wow, that things awesome. from so many different people in this car, completely stock on the outside, some people not even realizing its a gt. never got any kind of recognition like that in my 94.

even had people that saw my number from the track on the window while i was parked at work ask me about it, ask if its stick etc, whats done to it, then what i ran, and they tell me about their car and their times, and extremely suprised for what it ran thinking since it was my first time down to the track with a stick i would just boil the tires. which i did but that's a different story hah.:nice:

Thanks Ryche, we're heading for Boone tomorrow, although I don't expect to surf too many lots, maybe a few on 421. I'm really after a 03-04 cobra, original owner. Quite a few available in the orlando area, just have to be patient. Great holiays to you, Vann.

If you really want a nice Termy a friend of mine has his up for sale. Its an 03 with a few mods. I think he said it has 24k on it. While youre in NC shoot me a pm Ill get you some info if you want.

My beef with the Terminator is two things:

1. You're kind of stuck with your choice of a power adder.

2. Everybody and their brother wants one, has one, or has had one.

I've met a couple guys who thought they were God's gift to the hobby because they put a pulley on theirs and made more than 400HP. I do really like the cars, and would take one before I'd take a GT500, but they are still young enough to fall into that category of "just because you have a clean one doesn't necessarily mean you're a car guy". If LaserSVT is reading this, nothing against you and your car, buddy.

I'd personally rather have one of the Mach 1s. The hood/scoop looks mean as hell, and you can do whatever you want with the engine. You can also find them cheaper than the Terminators. I think a Mach with a big turbo would be badass.

I didnt feel like reading the entire thread but here is my .02, A used GT around here can be found in the mid to high teens. A terminator around 22-25. As far as no warranty goes, I have bought many used vehicles and prefer it that way as the sticker has dropped quite a bit. I get the extended warrant for 12-1500 and call it good. Just my opinion though.

You do realize that Hellion has a twin turbo kit for the '03 Cobra that brings it into the 1,000hp range...right? All while maintaining all of the drivability and low end torque the eaton has to offer.

...and you ain't putting no "big turbo" on a Mach 1 without doing a pile of engine work. Remeber....their bottom ends are made of glass, just like the GT.

Its not even "his" car LOL. :p

I guess I'm confused... Is it his parent's car? I was under the impression it was his, but I guess I don't know.

Yea, I've seen/heard of the kit before. I understand the theory behind the compound boost thing, but the fact remains that you still have the parasitic drag of the blower, so consider me a pessimist. I'd rather make the same inlet boost pressures with a turbo system by itself and realize larger power numbers with a less complex system. Thats just me.

I did not know that... For some reason I thought it was basically a Termi motor without the blower. Oh well, while I'm dreaming here, I can say that I'd put billet parts in it, right?

im pretty sure you take the blower off when you do the hellion kit lol

Nope, that's the whole point to "compound boost"! ;)

The nice thing about it though, is that you get none of the lag, or violent, short power bands that you'd get with your standard turbo set up. The blower comes on right off idle and gets the party going until the turbo gets up to speed and takes over on the top end.

The parasitic loss isn't nearly as bad as it would be with the blower alone, because you've got the turbo literally force feeding the blower at the top end and taking a lot of the work out of the process.

.....and how does 1,188 rwhp and 1,015 rwtq sound.

Check out the MM&FF write up on the install and testing of the kit.

Yeah, the Mach's got a forged crank (assuming you got the 5-speed. The Auto's got a nodular iron unit), but otherwise the rods powdered cracked cap design and the pistons are hypereutectic just like the GT and early Cobra 4V's.

I've still seen guys make into the 450rwhp range safely with them though. :nice:
