Hi all,
I'm having a bit of a problem with some pinging...so that "sparked" a few changes I want to make.
What type of plugs should I get? Maybe just some discussion on them if I want to keep my gas in the reg/plus range.

Thanks

Its the timing not the plugs. Turn your timing down to 10* and you can run regular (87 octaine).

If one suspects preignition, that is the time to consider going to a colder spark plug. Otherwise, i agree with above-advice. Back the timing down, use top end cleaner, etc.

Good luck.

also might be a good idea to change the fuel filter

Well, I've already done the fuel filter...but I've got larger injectors so the pressure is barely above minimum spec.

I've fiddled with the timing somewhat, but it works best around 10-12*. It's still pinging at that so that's why I'm looking into plugs/wires etc.

I thought pinging was pre-ignition. So if I put colder plugs in, it should "burn" rather than "explode" right? Is there a specific kind or type of "cold" plug that I should get? Are there any side effects if I use a colder plug?

Thanks.

Preignition is not detonation. Preignition is where the intake charge is spontaneously combusted (glowing plug, red hot carbon deposits, etc). Detonation has to do with the spark timing in relation to the piston's position.

a colder plug will not get as hot between lighting off, but there is a larger chance of fouling the plug. If one runs Autolite 25's, an example of a plug one heat range colder is an Autolite 24.

You can try cleaning sensors, top end cleaner, and most importantly, back timing down some more.

Good luck.
