new stang owner.

i currently drive a 400+hp 86' chevy truck and just cant keep it as a daily driver. i'm looking at selling it and buying a 99-04 gt 5 speed. the first thing i want to do for it is buy a new shifter. I've never drove one with an aftermarket shifter, so i'm not biased anyway.

what are the pros and cons of all the popular shifters. Pro 5.0, tri ax, mgw??

i was planning on getting the pro5.0 with the new longer handle, but then i've been reading about all the people buying the mgw and they love it. so i was thinking about it with the red handle.

after that i'll be looking at exhaust. I love the magnaflows on my truck and would like to get a cat back made my magnaflow, i would also like a 50 state legal X pipe too. I live in oklahoma where we dont have inspections, but i would rather stay federal legal with a new car. I have an H pipe on my truck, but i would really like the extra performance of the xpipe on the stang. any suggestions on different cat backs and mid pipes?

also, i'm wanting to lower the car too. i know nothing about car suspension because the only thing i've lowered was my truck with new springs and spindles. i was thinking about 1.25-1.50" all around. i dont know what brands to look at and all which to avoid.

haha i guess thats it for now.

Anybody with an MGW will tell you to buy one.

No matter WHAT shifter they used to own!

I have not heard one single bad thing, ever, about the MGW. I have one, in fact :D After two weeks, I think its one of the most important mods to do to your mustang first!

Hey, I am a noob myself, but noticed no one else has answered your question yet, so:

For shifter, MGW seems to be whats hot right now, and is what I plan on getting myself. It has a new adjustable design where the shifter sits straight up and allows you to rotate the handle to where you like. Also suppose to be very quiet, with no noise (like stock). Also, throws are the shortest advertised. Anyway, it seems like a great piece of equipment!

For the catback, Magnaflow has 2 options with their traditional Magnaflow set and their Magnapacks, for a more aggressive sound. I am ordering the Maganpacks as soon as I get the cash! For pipe, I have seen a lot of people say go H with the Packs for best sound. But thats up to you, plenty of X's out there to choose from. I personally like the MAC Prochamber. Depends on your taste, may not be for you, but I have heard it coupled with the Packs and it sounds great, but again thats my opinion!

For springs, the Eibach pro kit advertises a 1.5' drop all around, and is a good set to go with. I personally went with the H&R Sports and couldn't be happier. Drops the rear 1.5' and the front 1.6', for the sweet raked look. I also picked up a set of Tokico HP (blues) Shocks/Struts and some Maximum Motorsport 4-bolt Caster Camber Plates. I love the set-up and have had it over a month now with no problems. The ride is compared to stock and doesn't ride rough like I was scarred might happen. Like I said I couldnt be happier and definitely reccommend the setup. The drop is good enough where I dont scrape when coming out of parking lots (by taking it slow), and takes away the 4x4 monster truck look. If you want a smaller drop, Ford makes springs as well that you can look into that drop the car somewhere over an inch I believe, they have different sets (C and B springs). Not sure which ones do what.

Hope this helps, just thought I'd relate my experience with some of these products and pass along the information. I have a 2002 GT, 5-speed by the way. If you need any pics of the drop just let me know! Good luck and Im sure some of the other users on here can provide input as well. :)

From what i've read, no x-pipes are legal in CA. If you plan on getting a Magnaflow catback might as well get their X also, they compliment each other nicely. Power and sound.
