I have a brand new TKO- 600 that I installed on my stang. After I finally put it together I went to crank and its locked. The whole drivetrain is locked. I tried turning it at the crank and nothing. I took the tranny out, and tried turning it at the crank and it turns, no lock up. It seems the problems is at the tranny. Anyone else experience this? It is the only thing holding me back from starting it.

It may have been dropped on the tailshaft during shipment. This can cause a lock-up.

does you shifter move around freely?

If it doesn't, then take the inspection cover closest to the shifter off. You'll see 3 rails. On the middle rail you'll see something that slides back and forth (IIRC). take a prybar of some sort and put it between the casing of the tranny and that little movable piece and pry it backwards (DON'T use much force). This will pop it outta third and it will be good to go.

If your shifter doesn't move, let me know. I may be able to get you pics.

the tranny itself is not locked up. If I put it in gear I can spin the input shaft and the tail also moves. I picked up the tranny at a local tranny shop. I had some internal work done to it, so I doubt that its that it was dropped. Im going to call the shop and let you know.

The shifter moves freely in and out of gears

that's good then. Mine did that and it was my problem.

hmmm...maybe something's up with the starter?

You had the car in neutral when you turned the engine over by crank right? can you spin your input shaft when the tranny is in neutral? If so, does it spin the tail shaft?

I am thinking that the battery is not fully charged and therefore not letting the starter turn hard enough.

The tranny was in neutral when trying to start it. I can't spin the output because I don't have the driveshaft for it yet. I just tried going through the gears at home and turn the input and in every gear it turned.

man, that's a tough one.

If it was the battery I'd think you'd still be able to turn the engine by hand.

maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can chime in on this one
