Hi there,
I have been reading some of the threads and getting good info about my first Mustang. I have some questions about wheel sizes and what wheels will fit, but I will try and post in the proper place before I go any further. I have always wanted a Fox body and bought this about 1 year ago in WI. It was last titled in Washington State and I would like to know if anyone out there knows this car. It has a fair amount of popular mods...5 lug conversion, lowering springs, subframe connectors, etc but the details are not known by me. Like what kind of spindles are they? the rotors measure 11" and it is a single piston caliper. I hope I can figure this all out with a little help from the community.

Hiya Topher and welcome to Stangnet!

I'm going to move your thread over to the Fox Body section and there I'm sure, they'll be able to answer all of your questions.

Welcome aboard.

Welcome to the forum! As far as your brakes, it looks like a stock sized 5-lug conversion. The rotor and caliper look to be stock with an extra wheel stud, and your rear looks stock with a new axle shaft. Spindles also look stock. Probably the P.O. bought a set like this:

Hope this helps!

That helps me get started, trying to fit a wider front wheel tire combo on the front, would like to go 17x9 front and rear. It has 18x8 rear (275/40/18) and 17x7 front (205/50/17) now.

Let me correct myself, it looks like stock 5-lug for an 87-93 car. Yours is obviously a pre-87 fox, and those came with the 10" rotors stock. So, it would appear that someone did the larger front brake swap with the 87-93 5-lug conversion.

They make new pistons every day, so why worry?

Thanks for the positive feedback, I can not take any credit for building the car. I purchased it as it sits. The oil and coolant leaks have been fixed, the carb tuned, and the timing set. Other than that, this is the way it looked when I purchased it a year ago.
Under the hood is a 306 with an Edelbrock air gap intake, carb and Trickflow heads. The insides are a mystery at this point. The strut tower brace is in the way of the air cleaner so it has a two inch spacer and the air filter sits above the brace. I think a 2" cowel would fit with a different air filter.
Going to autocross the car, did HSAX about a week ago and it definitely needs more brake and wider front wheel/tire combo.

If you're autocrossing, you're going to need to do a complete Cobra brake upgrade. The trouble is that kit prices for these upgrades is high and piecing everything together to do it cost effectively takes time.

A side effect is that your rims may not fit over the front 13 inch Cobra rotor and large brake caliper.

I am assuming that the 17" Cobra wheels would fit over the rotors, but that is an assumption. I am willing to ditch the wheels, the fronts are only 7" wide.

I was going to try the salvage yard. Have a connection to a large yard in Milwaukee. Maybe a complete brake and spindle setup from a wreck?
