Hi guys, well in my sig it says it all, I've owned a couple of Camaros and all ways end up getting rid of them and buying another Mustang. I've owned a 2002 Mustang GT, a 2004 Mustang V6, and now I currently have a 1990 LX 5.0.

Anyway, I just got the car and the guy I bought the car from says the speedometer cable needs to be replaced along with the speedometer gear. I've read many websites and cant find a good answer, in fact a few websits for a 1990 5.0 even skips what gear you would need for a 3:73, which thats the gear that I have a 3:73. Have any of you done a gear and cable swap to calibrate your speedometer?

any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to have the speedo working again fairly soon, I'm just keeping up with the speed of other traffic right now.....LOL

My name is Josh look forward to sharing info and etc.

thanks

I know on the 83-89 T-5's you use a 21 tooth gear. However the chart I had doesn't have a calibration gear for a 90-93 T-5 with 3:73's It maxes out with a 23 tooth gear for a 3:55.

But the cable and gear should run you about $30 + tax/shipping at Latemodel Restoration.

here is their chart for selecting gears.

I know the gear thats installed on the output shaft is the reason for the difference. But I know mine was easily replaceable. (if you don't mind and are fully confident in tearing apart a T-5) took bout an Hour and a half to pull the tail housing and replace the gear on my T-5. Reason being that they are usually stripped. Mine was, and if that is the gear you need replaced, I would put in the gear for a 83-89. I think it is the 6t, and not the 7t from a 90-93.

Correct me if I am wrong fellas.

Good luck

Thanks for the advice, I'll take a look and see whats going on, I may just replace it all, transmission gear and the speedometer cable gear.

All in all its just real nice to be back in a Mustang, especially a 5.0
