I'm new to this forum and wanted to introduce myself. I've been an auto tech since 1977. Started off at a Ford dealership where I specialized in trans repair and electrical diagnostics and repair. My current project is a 66 coupe with a 4.6 DOHC.

nice....same project as me....except I'm using a mark viii engine because I'm cheap....and I have yet to install the mII suspension(that was supposed to be this weekend, but couldn't get my welding cylinder refilled in time)....is that the heidts kit? if so did you have to notch the x-member(doesn't look like it)? do you have any pictures of your motor mount brackets? how close were you able to get the engine to the firewall?

The hydraboost mounting bracket was removed from the unit and the center was cut out. I fabricated a plate to fit in the firewall space to block off the factory clutch hole and welded the hydraboost mounting to it. The anchor pin on the brake pedal was cut off and a new one installed to give the correct pedal heigth and correct travel. The cross member is Heidts and I didn't notch it. I used a mark8 pan and modified the sump. Thanks for the complaments. If I can help or shed some light on any of your projects I'll be glad to.

well, that does look like it simplifies my motor mounting woes....how much did you have to take off of the mark viii pan? I guess I am trying to find out if I can use the stock pan and shove the engine back close to the firewall(i happen to be using a t-5 tranny from an 01 v6, so with the deeper bellhousing and putting the engine back as far as possible I'm hoping for a more favorable shifter location, although that would complicate the engine mounts, and possibly the brake booster) since I wont be using power steering, I cant use a hydroboost system....I'm pretty much stuck with manual brakes...trying to find a MC that wont interfere with the engine

p.s. nothing to do with the 4.6, but did you get the sway bar kit as well from heidts? they sent me the damn thing with no mounting instructions for the tabs

I didnt take anything off of the length of the sump I simply squared off the front of it and added to the width. I wanted to keep the shifter in the same location so I used a t45 out of a 99 gt. It seemed to give me plenty of firewall clearance. My sway bar is by heidt and the instructions are pretty lame. Is the end that connects to the lower control arm where you are questioning?

That's an interesting project. If I had not gone for a stroker, that engine you got there was on the card

Keep the pictures coming

I must be blind, I dont see the attachment point at all, or the bar itself for that matter, do you have another picture?

as for the mark viii pan...I assume by squaring it off you mean that it slopes upward right?(my engine is still in transit to me so I cant just go look) I guess I'll find out for sure once I go to fit the engine whether I'll need to hack up the pan....is it stamped steel? or cast aluminum?

I don't have any pics of the lower control arm with the sway bar attached. The oil pan is steel. The mark8 pan will allow you to drop the front of the engine a little. The cobra pan is thicker in the front. Here's a few pics of the under body with strengthing kit being installed.

Crikey,

I am new here too but it looks like you might have done this before, what a great job you have done. I don't know anything about the motor you have .... what sort of performance do you get from that?

I have a 66 2+2 with a ford racing crate 302 (345Hp, is waht it said on the crate).

Steve the engine is out of a 99 cobra. It's a 4.6L or 281ci. Its about 350 hp at the crank. I like the engine because the bottom end is bullet proof. This one has Manley H beam steel rods 4bolt mains with crossbolts too. The block and heads are aluminum. This car was a 6cy coupe and I wanted to do something different than a 5.0 or 5.8 swap. Thanks for the complaments.

That looks cool! What color are you painting it?

My Dad has a 97 Cobra and he commented a couple times that we should squeeze a crate motor like his in the 65. We are going with a carbed 302 that has been beefed up quite a bit.

I should have it back from the paint shop in a few more weeks. It's been there since Sept. I'll post some pics as soon as I get it back. It's Viper red but if you have a problem with a Dodge color on a Ford we'll call it Garnes red. The two colors are real close. Thanks for the complament.
