I am looking to get a mustang I am looking for either a foxbody w/ a 5.0 or a 96+ with a 4.6. I have never owned a mustang, so I am posting on here to get some info on what problems they have. What should I look for? Any advice etc would be awesome.

Look for; torque box damage, electrical failures, check for rust, any leaks or smoke. make sure they don't run like chit. If they have any aftermarket parts check to make sure they were installed corectly and cleanly. It would be a good idea to get a carfax of the car your looking to buy. In the 96-01(i believe) they have a problem with cracking the intake manifold. If it has the aluminum coolant crossover its been fixed. If not that may be something to watch for. I'm sure more :SNSign: regulars will chime in with other things but these are just a few.

then you'll need a blower.

if you go for a 4.6 then start with 99 and up so you get the PI intake and heads to start off with. and like someone else said the 96-01 intake is prone to cracking at the coolant crossover. it is an easy swap though.

and dont buy an auto.

I am deffinatly going 5 speed. I like grabbing my own gears, altho if I was building a track car it would be an auto. Is a blower the only way to get 450rwhp outa a 4.6? I was hoping not to go that route, because I was thinking of hooking up alittle spray to it to get her over 500 for the track only.

If you're wanting those numbers NA you're going to be outta luck. 300rwhp is attainable but its gonna end up costing as much if not more than a blower depending on how much you do yourself. The best you MIGHT get would be about 350 rwhp and I would not want to think about it being a DD.

The easiest and cheapest route is to FI it whther by supercharger or turbo. 400 can easily be gotten. If you plan on going higher than that you better beef it up.

On the other hand if you were to get a Cobra(4v engine) you can reach much higher hp limits before needing to build up the internals. Not sure of its limits though.
