Hi, I just bought a 1995 Mustang Coupe V6 80k miles. I had been looking for the 4.6L V8 but this was way too good of a deal to pass up. So my questions to all of you seasoned mustang guys is....

Can I drop a 4.6 or 5.0 v8 in my v6 mustang? Will I have to change the trans (currently auto)

With gas prices the way they are right now I think i will leave the v6 in it for at least a littel while but would like to start getting my ducks in a row to swap out the motor.

If you wanted a V8 you shoulda bought a V8.


I'm pretty sure 95's had 5.0's

Yeah, 94 and 95 had the 5.0. And like he said, if you wanted to go V8, you shoulda bought one. It may seem like a simple swap, but its not. Ive read into it a lot, and unless you have a donor car, its gonna be way hard. Even then, it will still be way too expensive.
Honestly, you should drive this one around a bit, see if its enough for you. If not, then sell it and buy a v8.

I don't think he was really trying to be a jerk, just trying to save you time and money. For the new mustangs, 94+, if you want a v8, his advice was most often right, you should have bought one.

Tons of threads are on here about engine swapping and sure it can be done, but the cost of it probably won't be justified, but if you got your v6 cheap and you have a junked v8 car then you can probably do it cheaper than just buying the v8, assuming you have the know how.

i agree i dont think he meant to be mean but its true and it an issue that most people think is relatively simple when they buy a v6. the problem is that you need way more components than you think. engine, tranny, 8.8" rear end, wireing harness, ECU, the list goes on. it can and has been done but its a hassle. there are alternatives tho to get that sixer movin i highly reccomend super six motorsports they have tons of stuff to turn that v6 into a gt whomper along with superbly built performance v6 crate engines. one of those would save you tons of work and money instead of goin with a v8.

also for future refferences the search button is a great tool on this site. the site has been around for a few years and there are almost always post already made on stuff u might wanna know. so search first and if no luck or you get frustrated then ask there will be plenty of people with helpful insight.... there will be dicks to but hey its the internet what didja expect

Amen FunkMasterFlex. Had I researched more about the 95 5.0's, I prolly would have bought one. And now being paying out the a$$ in gas to commute to college and my job.

But sersiously...I am getting tired of people buying a V6 and wanting to drop a V8 in it. Its almost like like marrying a good woman and then wondering what it would take to make her into a goddess.

FunkMasterFlex, Thank you, thats all I was looking for. as far as jerks on the net I know plenty of them. I am into watercraft and believe me that bunch is very "clickish" and newbies are not often welcomed into the community (not the way I would treat people but......) it does happen. Just because I wanted a V8 doesnt mean I have to have a V8, the V6 i have is quite zippy and fun so I am not complaining at all. I was just curious on what it would take. Your input is appreciated. Thanks again.

glad i could help. and just to reassure you a bit there are a good number of hardcore v6ers out there running 10's, 11's and 12,s easily beating out those dinky little v8s im also onwww.extremev6racing.com where a few of the guys that run times like that post. very helpful stuff there as well. good luck with your v6 man and remember "it may not be a 5.0 but atleast its a MUSTANG"

i have to agree with tack, just enjoy better mpg for awhile and save the money and when gas prices go down upgrade to the v8 if you still want it. it would be alot cheaper im sure. and i dont think they are running 10's 11's and 12's "easily" and im pretty sure the v8 isnt "dinky"
