Judging by the Commodore, the Camaro will be very good. 50/50 weight distribution, a well designed IRS, 28+ mpg, 6-speed and over 400hp. The LS2 is going out of production soon, so I would expect the base V8 to be the LS3 with 440hp+. The V6 will likely be at or near 300hp.Lets all, not be too presumptious, and wait and see. Not everything that Chevy's does as a good thing is going to be a bad thing for Ford. Maybe a new 400hp Camaro, if it's on a good chassis and actually runs good, will be good
GM is in a position that Ford wants to be in. GM's market share is slowly increasing and they are bringing out very nice cars -- Aura, Astra, CTS, new trucks/SUVs, new Malibu, RWD Impala, G8, Solstice, Sky, Outlook, Arcadia, Enclave, Camaro, C6/Z06/Sting Ray etc.Who knows, we'll see. But, I'm telling you right now. GM isn't doing much better than Ford, although Ford is suffering still from lost profits from the '90's, if they keep their head up, and freaking design things properly, WHICH DOESN'T COST EXTRA MONEY, JUST ENGINEERING, eeuuhhmmm, they'll be fine, but don't think that GM is all too dandy, they're going through a huge transition right now, look how much of their lineup has almost no history, they're a very new product lately, so, I don't see them taking huge risks. And, a extremely well performing V-8 car will be easy for them, lots of room to guzzle gas, with their lineup and sales, the government is not on their a$s as bad as Ford (1million F150's a year doesn't help).

Your prices are off. The GT starts at $150,000 + markup. The GT500 is about $45,000 with the upgraded stereo and gas tax(10,000 markup seems to be the norm). Also, the GT isn't a new car -- 2006 was the last year and we are well into the '07 model year.PPS.
If they really wanted to do a comparison, why didn't they put the Ford GT in there? As long as we're comparing performance flagship cars, doing $60k Z06 vs $120k GT isn't much different from $40k GT500 vs $80k Viper. Then who wins?
No. The C5 Z06 was around $47k msrp. The 03/04 Cobra was around $34k msrp. Z06 is in a different league when it comes to performance -- regardless of modded Cobra 1/4 times.Yeah and that Vette costs what? Nearly twice as much as an 04 Cobra cost? The best way to compare the cars is by test done on the SAME day. Comparing 2 test by the same mag is flawed because they use different drivers and the varying weather conditions on different days.geoffsgt said:11.2@131.2 was as tested by Motor Trend (we all know what that means...).
