Sorry if this has been covered before, but I don't know the difference between a short and longblock. Is the shortblock the block only, and the longblock comes with heads (and/or other goodies)?

Thanks in advance.

The shortblock is just the block, pistons, crank, rods, etc.

The longblock is pretty much everything needed for a working engine. I believe it is aka a crate motor.

Hey who cares if its been covered. Just keep asking questions so in the future you don't waste your money on stupid things. Remember its only a stupid questions if you don't ask it. If you can follow that.

Short block:

Block, pistons, crank, rods, bearings, all screwed together.

Long:

Short + Heads (including valves, springs, etc)

Crate:

Long block + intake manifold, carb or efi, injectors, computer, spark plugs, ignition crud, etc.

A crate is basically ready to go right?
