I'm a long time viewer, but first time poster. I just got my dream car! I found a clean 68' fastback for cheap, and I'm still in shock. Anyway, my question is about the vin# location. I thought in a 68' car it would be in the dash, not under the hood where mine is. can anybody clearify this for me?

Yes it should be on the dash and it will also stamped in the inner fender on the drivers side
There is another VIN stamping on the passenger side, but it's covered up by the fender.
Does the number on the title match the one you found?

Thanks for the info, it looks like I have bigger problems! the car came from Ga. to Fl. and I have no title, just a bill of sale to the car. Ga. does not issue titles to cars this age, and Florida wants something from Ga. stating that this is the case. Thanks for the info, and I'm sure I will be needing a lot of help on things in the future...

The door tag is in place, and matches the stamped numbers under the hood. I did not see a vin plate on the passengers side dash as one of the posts said there sould be. The car was donated to a church in Atlanta for a fund raiser. I called the lady that I closed the deal with last week, and she gave me the phone # to the guy who donated it to the church. When I get in touch with him, he may be able to help me with some of the history on the car. Thanks for all the help so far guys, I think this is the place to get the knowledge I need..

** And thanks, no way will this ever be an Elenwhore, ever!

So what do your VINs say? Do they show the car is a 68? Are you sure you don't have a 67? 68s DID have the VIN on the passenger side of the dash lower corner of the windshield. 69 is the year the VINs were moved to the drivers side of the dash. If there's no VIN on the passenger side of the dash and your paperwork says the car is a 68, you better check it over very carefully before you go spending anymore cash on it. You may have bought a major headache. Get the VINs verified by your DMV or Highway Patrol.
