What shot can I safely run on the stock internals? Are you running dry or wet shots? I am thinking of trading my current car in and getting back into a mustang (used to drive a 5.0 coupe) S197 and want to throw my nitrous kit on the stang. Any help would be appreciated. :nice:

most people are running wet systems. i dont know the limit for the stock internals. i do know you need to get HT0 spark plugs and a tune for anything above 75hp. the 3V uses a returnless fuel rail, so you will need the proper adapters to be able to run your old nitrous kit in the 3V. also, we have a drive by wire throttle, so you will need the proper setup for activating the nitrous. a typical WOT switch does not work since there is no linkage on the TB.

check out this link from brenspeed on a ZEX installation. there is some basic nitrous information you may find helpful.

here is a small quote from that link:

To determine what level of power is best for you we suggest calling us but it is common to run 75 HP on your stock tune with no issues. We have ran the 75 HP system on our most radical naturally aspirated tune with no ill effects. A good rule of thumb is to remove 1 degree of timing for every 25 HP but that is a safety net. Zex says you do not need to do any modifications to timing at the 75 HP level. We have found that some cars at the 100 HP level and all of them at the 125 HP level will melt the spark plugs with a safe tune. We suggest using a colder spark plug and removing timing at anything over 75 HP.

I can't say that I've sprayed my car YET but my Wilson Pro Flow kit is on the way :)

I'll be running a 100 shot, backing off a few degrees of timing and running colder plugs. Any higher than 100 shot you'll want to upgrade your fuel system and likely get a dyno tune tailored to your shot.

Well a couple years ago I had the zex system on my car. I started with the 100 shot and it was very reliable. I ran Ht0 plugs and turned mid 12's @ 110 with an auto. Never lost a plug on this setting, but I was running the HT0, not the HT1. Tune was a mail order Brenspeed tune. Then after a short while, I got it dynotuned with the 100. I saw on the dynotune that the nitrous pressure makes a big difference. Huge difference between 900 and 1100 psi.

I went up the the 125 shot, but I would loose a plug from time to time if I ran full 1/4 mile passes on pump gas. Not a problem 1/8th mile. I backed off the timing a couple more degrees and ran 100 octane and didn't loose any more plugs as long as I did that. On the 125 I was low 12's, 12.1X to 12.3X.

Then I added a BAP and went up to the 150 shot. The car eventually went a 7.38 1/8th mile (which is around 11.60 or so), but when I ran the 150, in addition to running the HT0 plugs, I also gapped them down to .035. This was not needed on the 125.

In addition, I had a bottle heater, a nitrous pressure gauge, I routed a purge kit which emptied out the front grill. I kept the n20 pressure around 1050. I also had two bottles in the trunk so I could run all day at the track and not have to worry about loosing bottle pressure.

I did, in fact override the TPS switch activation with the zex kit, not because I wanted to, because I had to. After a while, the wire from the zex box to the TPS was causing the car to throw codes. I took this wire off, and in addition to the arming switch which I had in the center console, I mounted the activation switch right by the shifter. This worked because I had an auto---the location of this switch will require more thought with a manual.

However, I don't know if I would do this again---just letting you know it is possible. Having the system activate off of the TPS in conjunction with the window switch would be best. Zex.com has a window switch under accessories.

I have almost finished my Zex wet kit install (all I have to do now is connect the lines and fill the bottle). I have the HT0's but was wondering if I should get the boost a pump or something similar; any suggestions? I would like to run the 175 shot. I feel I should get it tuned before I run any nitrous.

I'm installing my Wilson Pro Flow kit next week, getting an MSD Digital RPM Window Switch as well. Still deciding on which plug to go with...

I'll post pics of the setup once it's installed and let you guys know all about it. What size shot, what adjustments to my tune etc.,

You definitely need to upgrade your fuel system with a 175 shot!!!! Go with the GT-500 fuel pump, it's worth the extra $$!!!

i am not sure that the stock motor will handle the 175 shot. better do some more research. i thought i remember from a few years ago thst the piston ringlands were prone to damage. look into it some more before spraying. otherwise, you might be rebuilding sooner than you thought.

Yall will probably laugh but about two years ago I bought an SRT-4 and sold the 5.0 about a month later. This car is a mean lil ****er on the nitrous but I am interested in getting back into a rwd V8. In other words, I wish I never sold the coupe. Dont get me wrong the Neon is a fun car and I love the look I get when I'm buzzing down the road but I want back into a V8.

Kit is almost in fellas. Will be done tomorrow afternoon.

What I ended up doing...

Wilson Pro Flow Kit (Wet)
MSD Digital Window Switch
DynoTune Purge Kit
DynoTune High Output Bottle Warmer
Liquid Filled On-Bottle Pressure Gauge
Autolite HT0 Spark Plugs

I am starting with a 100 Shot so I will simply be removing 2* of timing w/ my Predator and going from there. I intend on upping to a 125 shot. After that I will definitely be upgrading my Fuel System for a 150 shot.

A few other goodies are going in as well.
