ok so in my area this guy is selling a NX stage 1 wet nitrous kit with purge, bottle heater, all the jets, and he said that it will install on my 95 Cobra fine. he is asking around 300 for it. Do you think that is a good deal if it is in good condition? also how hard would it be to install it? i want to get most of the stuff hidden, but its ok if a few things are showing. after i get the kit i know i will need to retard my timing and get some colder plugs, but other than that is there anything i need to do other than run higher octane gas? i was thinking about starting with a 50 shot and then working up to a 100 shot. What are all your comments on the price and stuff like that.

One last question.. will a wet kit be fine for a 5.0L? i dont have to blow my engine or mess anything up.

Thanks

A wet kit is fine and an NX with the Stage I for $300 I'd go for it in a heartbeat. Hiding it is pretty easy - the hardest part with a wet kit is where you tee off the fuel rail for the enrichment line.

That's a good deal! Wet kits are fine, I ran one on a 5.0 for years with no problems. what was the system originally for ? make sure everything will work on your car, the second you start jurry rigging stuff, your taking the life of your motor in your hands. The only reason people burn up their motors is because they hook the system up wrong. The most common problem is fuel supply, when that gas selenoid opens up, your fuel supply to the motor (to include the nitrous system) drops considerably, mixture leans out, stuff burns up!
Solution, for lower amounts of squeeze an adjustable fuel pressure regulator will do, if your talking 100 shot or higher (trust me,you're goin to want MORE!) you better get a decent fuel fump, at least 190 lph. You need a fuel system that will deliver good fuel pressure when everything is wide open. The other question is, what kind of shape is your motor in? Pumping a 100 shot of juice into a motor with 100,000 miles is not a good idea.

my car has 65,xxx on it. I would probably get a new fuel pump a little bit down the line. Since i dont want to mess anything up, how much do you think it would cost to have a performance shop install it? i dont think that i would want to go over a 100 shot with the pistons and fuel pump that i have. If i did want to go higher like a 125 or even a 150, what other mods would i need? thanks a bunch

I ran/run a wet kit on my 94. On the stock longblock with over 100k I ran a 125 shot ran a 13.1 @107. Run the safty stuff and back off the timing if you have it adv. setting it back to the 10* stock mark should be fine.

It ran fine for several bottles worth of n2o...I was waiting for my window switch to ship (back order) and it even had a BAD backfire. Thought I narfd' a piston...didnt.

$300 is an excellent price if it's all there. Might be a good deal even if it isn't. If you don't believe me, send me your friends email and I'll post pictures of his system on MY car for you. :rlaugh: You could spend nearly that much on the bottle heater and a good purge kit alone. NX is a highly regarded brand. As far as harming your motor. IMO, 90+% of N2O catastrophies are user induced. Do a meticulous install, stay conservative on the jetting as you mentioned, and consider spraying on a dyno first, so you can KNOW your AFR is correct. I'd recommend you start by utilizing the many resources on the net. The following sites have a good primer on judicious use of nitrous.

musclemustangfastfords.com Many good tech articles on nitrous. I just read a few tonight.

50nitrous.com (Site often doesn't work, but it's good).

Holley.com They own the NOS brand. The NOS catalog can be downloaded and has good info.

All the major nitrous brands I checked have good info.

Why would you want to spray if you weren't WOT? Isn't the whole point to go as fast as possible?
my point exactly. all i'm saying is that mitrous is more for the track. how long does a nitrous shot last? is it safe to spray it on the street?

at least in the dc area, there are very few places where there is enough (relatively) straight road with no traffic to make nitrous outside of a track very useful.

I don't think you understand how nitrous systems work, BlackVert.

Do ever enjoy going WOT on the street? I do. Most nitrous systems spray:

1. When the system is armed.
2. When you go WOT.

So, whenever you want to enjoy going fast, you arm your system and floor it...when you want to slow down, you let off. When you want to go fast again, you floor it.

how long does a nitrous shot last?

However long you want (as long as you've got the pedal down), but it's not recommended to spray for more than 15 seconds...which would take you WELL into the triple digits anyway.

is it safe to spray it on the street?

As safe as going WOT with a strong H/C/I car or blower car.

Hey Swarzkopf. Old Metallica rules :nice::hail2:

thanks guys, i am going to talk to the guy sometime this week and see if i can buy it. i will probably wait a little bit to install it, but when i do i Know i will have some fun. I plan on doing everything for safty and i dont want to cut corners.

If i took my nitrous system to a place how much do you think they would charge to install it? i dont want to mess something up and go BOOM... it would be the kit, bottle heater, purge, and a WOT switch.. thanks guys
