No 500 mile break-in??????

What do you all think? It all makes perfectly good sense, and explaines why everyone I know who has run the hell out of there motor before the 500 mile break-in has never had a problem.

I was told the same

My engine is being rebuilt right now by a shop in PA called Rombold's. It is a very respected outfit and builds race car engines for pros. My rebuild consists of hot-tanking the engine, installing new ported Windsor Alum heads mated to my Hedman long tube exhaust headers. The heads were flowed and my shop (Benders) is having a custom grind cam matched to them along with a Holley 650 CFM carb with mechanical secondaries. Crank is machined and polished, new forged Eagle rods and forged domed pistons are also on the list. All of this set up to 11.5:1 compression. I asked about a break-in period and was told not to bother and to just run the hell out of the car.

My dad was always told by his machinist to break it in how you're going to drive it. So of course he left in a huge cloud of tire smoke.

I rebuilt the last engine using no oil/grease on the cylinder walls or piston and rings. I used a new graphite power that you rub on the dry cylinder walls. It comes in a container the size of a quarter and about 1/4 inch deep for about $26. Total Seal makes it and recommened it for their rings. I thought I would try it and it did work. It is supposed to improve the sealing surface between the rings and the cylinder wall.

I agree having built several engines and helping with several others, run it hard. But don't forget to give it it's checkup.

Prep it, then rev it, then go.

After a rebuild and the normal 20 to 30 minute break in, I take it straight to the track and 7000 RPM's.

Use the good stuff and you will be OK.

Run it hard, but get some varying speeds in there as well, during the first 20-30 minutes of engine time... You have to show a new engine who's boss!

I agree with run it hard, like you stole it!

My 351w saw 6000+rpm after about 20 miles! Fricken thing HAULS!!!!!!

My friend used to race snocross and cross country on snowmobiles.....here is how he breaks in a brand new motor:

1) Fill up with gas and oil.

2) Start motor.

3) Hold throttle wide open and hold on for your life!
