A friend sent this email to me...pass it on!

Don't pump gas on May 15th
NO GAS...On May 15th 2007 : ...in April 1997, there was a "gas out"
conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped
30 cents a gallon overnight.
On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in
protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most
places.
There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet
network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.
If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take
$2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies
pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May
15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for
at least one day.
If you agree (which I can't see why you wouldn't) resend this to all
your contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th"
POWER TO THE PEOPLE !!!

And when everyone gasses up on the 16th, gas companies will crank the prices so all the poor saps who participated in this get screwed. Want to bring the oil companies to their knees? Sell your Excursion and buy a Prius.

gas companies have been screwing us for a while. they bring it up to $3+, not because costs are up, but so that when its at $2.50 people think its cheap.

i'm ready to get flamed, but here it goes. anybody that drives a 5.0 should not be allowed to complain about gas prices. it's part of the deal when you own one, they are gas pigs, and i assume everyone knows this prior to ownership. gas prices will never fall to the low prices of years gone by. simple fact. it's a non-renewable resource in high demand. i hate the gas prices too, but i accept it. there really is nothing we can do about it. the prices are not set on how much gas is sold ( or not sold) in a day, so to me, this plan is bunk. as mentioned above, what is proven if everyon fills up a couple days before, or after the 15th? nothing. sales are the same. it has no effect. if you really want to make a difference, it will have to happen on the government level. i love my 5.0, but one day soon, hydrogen fuel cells will be the norm, which i'm all for. still hope to have the 5.0 forever. i have a lot of hydrogen fuel cell knowledge, and i also know that government is reluctant to help push it forward due to the tax money recieved from oil and gas. I know that this IS A RANT, but it's a big deal to me. I am in school for this kind of stuff and hope to have an impact on our environmental future one day soon. Biodiesel and ethanol additives are ineffective bandaids on the real problem. In my opinion, the way to make a difference is to help push for alternative fuel sources, rather than not filling your car on a certain day of the year...

true, except that biodiesel and diesel fuels have the highest energy content per gallon when compared to any other fuel source even gasoline, and its a fairly well implemented system.

I'm just hoping they eventually come up with a cheap, effective retrofit kit of some kind to make standard gasoline combustion engines run on something like, say, hydrogen or whatever - only as long as it'll put out the same HP/torque, or at least relatively close. Sure, it might not seem like there's any money in the idea now, but think about it ... someone has to manufacture and install all of those retrofit kits, right? (And then someone's gotta set up a nationwide distribution network for the alternative fuel of choice ... which is, what, at least 20+ years away from now...?)

Alternatives to alternative fuels in the meantime:

1. Get your motorcycle endorsement on your driver's license and drive a scooter, crotch rocket, or whatever;
2. Buy a Geo Metro and rock that 40+ MPG turd daily while the Mustang gets weekend-only duty;
3. Find a job a lot closer to home to shorten your commute;
4. Keep working on that Mr. Fusion device to power your flux capacitor with table scraps and other garbage.

On average, a dollar extra a gallon ($2 vs $3) costs an extra $600 a year....or $50 a month....on average.

If $600 dollars a year is causing someone this much of a headache....maybe gas prices are the least of their worries. A better career perhaps?

It cracks me up, all the people I have talked to lately that are going to buy a "gas saver" car because of the gas prices. Great, spend the money on a car, insurance, AND gas....all to save $600 a year. Sounds smart to me.
