Ok new here and this is somewhat long story…

I am going to use Guy1 and Guy2 in the story. The motor was rebuilt 2.5 years ago but only driven for 5 months. Guy1 rebuild the motor and put a turbo on it. Guy1 drives it for 5 months and kept having tranny problems with it. Guy1 did not have time to fix it because he got acceptance to the State Trooper Academy and sold it to Guy2. Guy2 never install it or ran it, it just sat there for 2 years. Guy2 decide to sell it so I bought it from him. I got the motor and the only problems I am having is no oil pressure at idle and at 2000 rpms I am only get 5 psi. Every time I hit the gas, it goes up slowly. I am using a mechanical oil pressure gauge and still no oil pressure. There is no noise or knocking coming from the engine. It starts up on the first turn. Some of my friends are telling it is the oil pump and some think it is the bearing but I primed it before starting it and getting oil up in through the motor. Only thing I did not check if I was getting oil up to the rockers. I need HELP!!!

new stuff I added was:

3000 stall
Trick flow Stage 1 Cam
Comp Cam push rods
Comp Cam lifters

oil pump can be cloged or not working correctly. it can also be the oil sensor thats located on the stock pan on the driver side, its screwed into the pan. under accelration the oil gauge will move so thats normal. have you done a search regarding this same issuse someone else might have had?

I search every where on this issue and so far everyone is talking about the oil pump or the bearings.

If you truly have a good mechanical gauge and its only get up to 5 psi I'd stop running the engine. The best thing to do would be to pull the oil pan and check everything. If you want to make a quick check, pull the distributor and see if the oil pump drive shaft is twisted or broken. A piece of debris could have gotten in the oil pump and locked it up. Or at least change the oil and check for debris or bearing material in it. You will see gold looking sparkle in the oil if you have started losing your bearings. You will definately want to check bearings though if the engine has been ran for an extended period of time like this.

I haven't drove it yet because I just put the motor in the car. I have just started it to test things out before I drove it.

I'm new this... What is OPS? You mean Oil Pressure Sensor.

Are you sure someone didn't leave a rag in the oil pan and it is covering the pickup?

If the pickup tube is damaged or loose at the pump, you could have a good pump and no pressure.

He is using a mechanical gauge and only gets up to 5 psi, this is a problem. Either the mechanical gauge is broken or he is not getting oil pressure. If you aren't getting oil pressure then there is something wrong. The only way to find out is to start taking things apart.

Then your going to have to pull the pan to really check things out. I would replace the oil pump reguardless of what it looks like and pull acouple main bearing caps. If all looks good throw it back together and start her up. Put a ARP oil pump driveshaft in too.

Actually, where do you have the gauge hooked up to? The log on the side of the engine? If so try pulling that off and possibly that is clogged somehow, its worth a shot even though thats prob not the verdict.

take your valve cover off and start your motor to see if your getting oil up there

No debris or gold sparkle in the oil. So I guess it's the oil pump. I bought a new oil pump for it.

Did you pull the VC to see if it was getting oil to the rockers?

Ok, I put in a new oil pump and took of the VC to check to see if I get any oil to the rockers and no oil. Also still no oil pressure.

I sure hope you haven't damaged the engine. Take that puppy back out of the car, flip her over and start looking at things. Good luck!
