Hello everyone, I have a problem. About a week ago I heard a noise from under the hood. Checked it out and it was the hose coming straight from the PCV valve. On my way home my car started surging really bad and and I couldnt give it much trottle ( it wanted to die and surged really bad) I had to baby it home and barely made it in the drive way. I replaced that one hose that was bad. But went to start it and nothing, just cranks. Checked the IFS in the trunk and it is good. I can get it to start if I crack open the schrader valve on the fuel rail while cranking it over but when it does start it runs rough and wants to die. Cannot give it too much throttle too quickly. Seems like it its running lean, no check engine light. Will not start unless I Hold the schrader valve open to bleed. Cleaned the IAC valve and it did not work. ANY ADVICE?

Likely you still have a vacuum leak somewhere.

What happens if the MAF electrical connector is disonnected as a test? Does it start?

Try this. Cycle the key on/pause/off several times. Listen for the fuel pump to run each time. Does this improve starting?

OBTW, stop trying to bleed the fuel system. Once pressure has been confirmed, that is enough. Continued bleeding is a fire risk.

I disconnected the MAF and it sarted for a brief moment then died. I tried the key on/off and it worked for a little bit then died. Tried it again and nothing. With the MAF disconected it starts everytime but for a second then dies.

So far I have checked all fuses, checked IFS, I can hear the fuel pump prime up, cleaned IAC valve and EGR valve. For some odd reason it fired up and ran for about a minute, a little rough and the trottle was touchy. Then it died and I cannot get it to fire again. Not even the MAF test works.

There are really very few "no start" sensors. For the 99-04 MY, the CKP, MAF, and FRPS are the main ones.

The other typical causes of no start are anti-theft (PATS) related. I'm assuming you would have mentioned a fast flashing theft light, right?

A large vacuum leak between the MAF and the throttle body can cause a no start. Since you have recently replaced the PVC hose, suggest starting there. Look for any other hoses that may have been disconneted or have leaks. Remember that the PVC system is basically a controlled vacuum leak.

Check all the fittings between the MAF and TB. Oil dip stick, oil cap. Even a tiny vacuum leak can cause problems.

Will it start using a small amount of starting fluid? If so, we have to suspect a fuel related issue.

:nonono:Have not tried starting fluid. I haved checked all connections from MAF to TB. Even taped up the connections to eliminate leakes there.Made sure clamp at MAF was on correct and tight as well as at the TB. Made sure all Vaccum lines were intact and hooked up to appropriate component. There is no theft light on. I OHMN checked the FRPs and I did not get 0 any way i tried. I read it shoudl read 0 ohms. It will randomly start now but runs rough and dies in less then a minute. I have now replaced the FRPS. IT DIDNT WORK> I installed the FRPS and it actually fired up after cranking for a few seconds but it ran. It ran fairly smooth and smelled no rich exhaust. I tried to rev er up and she died. After that, crank and no start. Im tired and pissed. Will try tommorow. Thanks to all who replied.
