No trac-loc on 93 5.0? I read it was standard equipment

My 93 lx 5.0 i just bought about a month ago with 65k original miles , bone stock all the way down to the air silencer. Anyway, when i dump the clutch, it seems to be doing a one wheel burn out. I remember back in 1990 my brothers brand new gt did the same thing when i used to take it out and beat it. If you read on this site below, it says traction loc as standard equipment. WTF. Please explain

Maybe the traction loc unit is burned out and needs to be rebuilt.

My '92 gets rubber on both rear 1/4's so I know my TL works.

alright. So I guess when i do gears, i better tell the mechanic to do a rebuild huh?

yea your rear end is shot. Get a rebuild i have the same problem.

As Paul said, one wheel peel is indicative of a Trac Lok in need of refreshment, not the whole rear end needing a rebuild. A TL rebuild kit starts at about 50 bucks.

I spent a bunch on a gear install including trac loc rebuild...

holy **** where did you go to get it installed? I did bearing kit, axle bearings, gears, and track lock rebuild for 250 at jake lamotta

And to thread poster, just get your TL rebuilt like said before, 50resto has a kit with the clutches for like 50 bucks.

Can't you almost buy a new rear end for that from CJ pony?? I've gotten some estimates and will be paying around $250-$275 labor in December.

My car does the one wheel peel right now. I hate it!!

Yeah, you got raped. You can buy a brand new 8.8 with 3.73s for like 750-800$ shipped.

Good to know, after my suspension/5lug stuff is done i'm going to do gears. At least I can tell him you did it for 250$ for someone else if they try to screw me.

There is a mustang guy that works at the Meinike down the street from Lamotta that does this kinda stuff too. He actually ended up doing my subframes since Lamotta couldn't get access to the drive on lift

If you tell the guy the job should only cost around $250-$300 labor and he balks, Don't be afraid to walk. Some of these guys think their the only ones who can do these jobs. If they see you're headed for the door, sometimes they change their tune and prices. Also get the estimate in writing. We won't get into the guys who quote one price, then when the job is finished add a few bucks w/ some rediculous statements about a bolt being frozen and it took extra labor time, or it took me longer than I thought. I say, learn to estimate better.

Jake lamotta will screw you over anyways. He only charged me 250 for the gear install, but I ended up coming out of there with a $700 bill to replace all my rear brakes. Ive said it many times before and ill keep saying it, Jake Lamotta has screwed me over so many times, and I'll never go back. Though they do, do good work (besides the time my upper control arm bolt was missing a year after they installed it), they will always find a way to get more money out of you then you originally expected to pay.

My traction lock was gone on my 93 GT when I bought it. If you have the money, while they are in there, get gears , upgrade your axles, and get a heavy duty posi installed.
I had 3.73's, 31 spline moser axles, and an Eaton posi installed. Depending on what your going to do with the car. I drag race mine. That's why i went heavier duty.

DO NOT rebuild your trac-lock it will still have 1 wheel peel its the same as an limited slip....get an aburn posi unit or an eaton and call it a day.....i had mine rebuilt in jan, and i get 1 wheel peel and i dont know when i will get posi when i burnout..

Repack the clutches with more... I did this and its been good for a couple years now!

It's not the same as a limited slip differential - it is an LSD.

Something may not have been done correctly or you have some serious power and traction (I didn't see a sig). Otherwise, when they TL's can take some decent power.

This might sound alittle weird haha but If I had to do it again sadly Id go to Jake Lomatta They're right down the street for me, juts gotta be smart when you go there, I was young and fell for their tricks, its easy for them to screw you over, just be strong, dont let them buy stuff, if they say we suggest this, say no, and dont hessitate to get your car out of there. Thats probably the only thing Id take my car to Jake Lomatta for, a gear install, anything else id do myself or grab a friend.

Go to powered by ford, I think their a few bucks more to install gears but id rather go there then jake Lomatta, JL is like 10 mins from my house, PBF is like an hour though.

why not just rebuild it at home. its pretty simple inside there. no sense in paying loads of money your could do at home. feel acomplihed and learn and most importantly save money.
