Noise coming from steering

The noise I get is from the power steering pump, it's kinda a creaking/squealing noise. I hear it from every late-model Ford out there, not just Mustangs. If this is the same kind of squeal you're getting, there is an additive that can be put into the power steering fluid to reduce/eliminate it for a while. It's designed specifically for Ford power steering systems. Ask about it at your local auto parts place and see if they can get it.

cythar: i'm positive that's not the noise he's talking about but i do know what ur talking about. i had the same noise on my explorer. i think the only way to fix that is to get a new pump even though like half of ford cars have the same noise/problem. This noise is sounds like a midpitched plastic gear-grinding coming from under the hood. the creak he's talking about sounds lower on the car like from the wheels (in my case at least)

AS TO THE NOISE: i too get the same noise. i've searched around these sights and have found it has something to do with the front end suspension components. i'm almost positive i remember it being the ends of the control arms that get that low pitched creaking noise when u turn the wheel (sometimes, not always- just low speeds i've found). As to the remedy, i don't know, i'm no mechanic- maybe you could disconnect them and grease em up??? i'd really like to know how to fix it too, but don't have the money to buy new ones if it is the problem... i'll try and locate the old thread that i saw this info in

When I am moving at low speeds and turn my wheel I get a creeking noise, I am hoping this isint my steering going bad, does anyone here know anything about this?

:rlaugh: My car has been doing that for 3 years now and I have never investigated it any further than planning on getting a new rack cuz everything else that it could have been is new parts.

i have the same creaking noise too. i have discovered that in my case it is the power steering rack bushings, and especially the one on the passenger side. after replacing the tie rod end it didn't fix it so i did a little more detecive work and lubricated those bushings and it went away for a few days and now its back. i have the replacement parts i just to put them in! my car is 94 gt as well. hope this helps....

Have you guys replaced your stock struts? I thought my creaking noise was coming from some of the bushing up front or the steering rack because it only happened when I turned the wheels, but I could never figure out which ones. I decided to just replace shocks and springs and to my surprise the noise went away. Just a thought if you havent changed them yet.
